Any suggestions?
Something obscure would be best.
Money isn't much of an issue. (within reason.)

Well... something geared towards him and his likes...

I don't know him or what he likes, so cant suggest specifics...

But my guyfriendwhoImcrushingonwhoisalso25 likes penguins. So I got him a penguin shirt and fuzumi (handknitted stuffed animal Fuzumies! ) for his birthday.... Usually I don't like to get something when its someones interests... like friend likes cats, so EVERYONE gives her something catlike, which gets tiring after a while... but he *REALLY* likes penguins... to the point he gets happy when he sees his penguin mug and stuff... so knew he'd enjoy it~

Of course... stuffed animals aren't exactly "guy"-like and stuff... but he's got a goomba on his desk at work, and I like them and mess around with him, so got him something thats reminiscient of me... He likes them :3

Also got him a giant penguin poster <.<;;; Giant penguin poster! Also zazzle.com, so clickies!

For no reason at all... which he reallllly liked since he was decorating his new apartment...

So really... anything he can use/enjoy... I get a lot of goofy things that a lot of ppl wouldn't stereotypically give a guy, but they enjoy them anyways *shrug*
Books as well... like a recommended series and stuff... dunno theres tons of things out there

But if he's geeky, might wanna check out thinkgeek.com (zazzle.com mentioned earlier, has a ton of posters, shirts, and random things postcards, mugs, shoes, bags, etc... a TON of different designs O_O;; can spend days looking at things haha)

I can't really answer this since I don't know anything about the guy, but I think most people of both genders prefer utilitarian gifts over something expensive they'll rarely use (this is assuming they don't already have the time/ money to get it themselves). One of the best gifts I ever got was moisture wicking socks.

Suggestions:

- Moisture wicking socks/ underwear (a sweaty crotch is a bad thing when its cold out.)

- Swiss Army knife (light weight, handy, easy to sharpen, doesn't rust, legal to carry in Scotland as far as I know)

- High quality keychain knife like the Spyderco Honeybee

- AA LED Mini-Maglite (Red is good because it's harder to lose)

- High quality LED pen light ( easy to carry around and handy in case of car breakdown)

- full size Diamond whetstone and a book on knife sharpening (unless all his knives are serrated)

- Stainless Chinese cleaver (if he cooks)

- waterpoof Gore-Tex sneakers/ boots (only if he does a lot of walking. if he walks in winter get him some gaiters too.)

- Military surplus waterproof mitten covers (If he shovels outside during the winter)

In my experience clothes don't work because nobody knows what they really need/want besides themselves. Most of the clothes I've gotten as gifts I never wear.

Some ideas:

a good quality transportable thermos for coffee or tea.
a good book or cd
a nice set of shot glasses (does he drink?)

Depends on what his hobbies are.

I was going to suggest a Slayer album, but the Cornish pastie is awesome. I haven't had one for ages.

That's not a Cornish pastie.

A Cornish pastie is a pastie with many corners.

Not really, it's a savoury meat and pastry foodstuff that originates in Cornwall, UK. Imagine a cross between a pie and a sausage roll.
