In a bit more depth what does it mean when someone says "your not ready for a girlfriend yet".

Probably that exact meaning.

Wanting something doesn't mean you are ready for it.
There is also emotional preparedness, and the ability to handle the relationship.

Someone telling you you are not ready might be taking those things into consideration or a lack of maturity, social development for your age group, inability to offer intimacy at a level others will generally expect of you and more.

Hope this was useful.

It means the one saying it doesn't think your ready for a girlfriend possibly for reasons JanuaryMan listed. It doesn't necessarily mean that you cant handle having any relationship thou you cant have one with the person who's telling you that at least for rite now. You might get reasons if you asked the person who told you that why she/he thinks your not ready

Did a girl tell you this? Maybe that means you are not ready for her if it was a girl that said that.
