I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to dating/dating websites, so I thought I'd give Aspie Affection a try. I found a profile that I liked (lots of similar interests and he's in my area) so I wrote out a message and tried to send it. I pushed the button once and nothing happened so I thought that it hadn't gone through. I kept pressing "send" and lo and behold I'd sent him 20 copies of my initial message! 8O    8O I haven't heard back from him today(but he's looked at my profile three times), and I've reached my limit so I'll have to wait until tonight to send anything. I just hope he's not too freaked out to the point where he won't reply... has anyone else experienced something like this? Thank you!

Yes, but not on dating sites. From a neutral perspective the only thing you did (if he's half-smart) is put him on notice that there's one or more things going on. The full list of "issues" he should see are: you have slow internet; the site's servers were overloaded when you messaged; your computer has some mal-ware. End of story. You don't have to be embarrassed over this.

If you hit it off with him it will make for a funny story. If you don't hit it off (or he doesn't respond), you can lounge around thinking of how many extra mouse-clicks you caused that bum. In fact, if it doesn't work out, you'll kick yourself for not clicking 40 times.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Good luck!

Aspie affection seems to have been not working properly for around a year. Errors everywhere.

Plus they have a strange system which makes everyones account expire after about a couple years, so the majority of accounts are expired ones.

If you want to give online dating a try, okcupid is the only one worth bothering with really. Free to use, highly popular, great phone app. Stick autism/aspergers in the search and you will be surprised to find that there are others on spectrum on there.

My advice if you are aiming for NT's is that real life is much much easier than online dating.

I would strongly suggest letting him know that the site malfunctioned and you only meant to send it once but something went wrong. Or what the first reply said that sounds better actually haha

I'm a newbie and just joined Aspie Affection because there was a profile not far away from me that i liked. I haven't succeeded in sending a message to the person yet due to errors.
However the really unexpected thing was that when I registered with Aspie Affection, the confirmation email sent to my email account came from the "no reply" id at Wrong Planet!

So is Aspie Affection and Wrong Planet now part of the same organisation? If so, can someone tell me what exactly is being done to fix Aspie Affection? And when did Wrong Planet acquire it?

I had to amend this post because WP did not recognise the reference to its own domain and I got this:

In order to try to prevent spammers, we do not allow our users to post URLs in any form until they have posted at least 5 legitimate posts and have been with us for more than 5 days. We appreciate your understanding in this matter in order to help us eliminate spam from this forum. If you have somehow gotten this message even though you meet both of the criteria, please let us know ASAP.

How frustrating!

Well, now I know not to bother with Aspie Affection. BTW guys, don't bother with gk2gk or evow either. Not enough people and on gk2gk none of the accounts appear to be active. Of all the messages I sent on that one only 3 or 4 were ever even viewed.

They were both created by Alex and Aspie Affection was the official dating section associated with this site, although there's no longer a link to it.

Thanks, Jono for the reply - and Herman's information is also useful. I will try to message the person on Aspie Affection. If I don't get any response, I won't assume that they didn't like my profile, or wonder what I have done wrong, but will just suppose that perhaps they never got the message because their account expired or there was some bug. And that will be the end of my adventure with Aspie Affection.

Over the years I created various sites for different projects. Some were successful. Others weren't, and eventually I pulled the plug on them. Otherwise I was just wasting my own time and other people's.

Snake53, Aspie Affection is plagued with technical glitches and software bugs, and has been for many years (see, for example, this old thread: "Short list of complaints about Aspie Affection", http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt78452.html ). To make matters worse, many of the women's profiles on it look like they are fakes/scammers. (I have never looked at the men's, so I do not know if they are any better.)

There are (or were) other dating and friendship websites targeted towards people on the autism spectrum, including http://www.autisticdating.net/ , http://www.aspergersdatingsite.com/ , and http://aspergerworld.com . There is (was?) also a group on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/groups/aspiedatingtips/ , which was created by a WrongPlanet.net member.

One can sometimes find people with autism spectrum disorders on websites for people with disabilities, such as http://dating4disabled.com/ and http://www.whispers4u.com/ (for more of those types of websites, see http://www.alldatingwebsites.com/dir/di ... tingsites/ and http://nichedatingdirectory.com/Disabled.htm ).
http://www.passionsnetwork.com/ is a free dating and social networking website, consisting of many niche sites or groups that focus specific areas of interest. It includes http://disabledpassions.com/ , which has an autism subgroup, http://www.disabledpassions.com/groups/Autism.html .

Unfortunately, searching for a friend or romantic partner who is also on the autism spectrum tends to be difficult because people on the autism spectrum make up a small minority of the general population (roughly 1%) and there appears to be a gender imbalance (one study suggested about 1 in 50 males are autistic, versus about 1 in 300 females). If you then narrow your search by demographic characteristics (e.g. acceptable age range, religion, etc.) and geographical location, there may be no one left. To make matters worse, the nature of autism spectrum disorders tends to make dating difficult (e.g. because of problems with executive function, or co-morbid disorders such anxiety, depression, etc.). Some people on the spectrum may be reluctant to initiate contact, and may give up easily, because of personality characteristics (e.g. introversion, shyness, etc.) and/or previous negative experiences (e.g. frequent rejection, unhealthy relationships, etc.).

The best advice I can offer is to try several dating websites, including the major, general sites, the minor niche sites, the free ones, and the ones that charge a membership fee (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... g_websites ). Before signing up for any dating website, however, be sure to read some reviews of it. Also, do not use more than two or three dating sites at the same time, and try take frequent breaks from the whole process.

(Disclaimer. I am not affiliated in any manner with any of the websites mentioned in this post, and hence I can not vouch for them. Caveat emptor.)

They also don't have a function to report suspicious profiles, it seems.

Just got this message from the newest user, "jamesd" from Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire:

"i need a nive and trusted person.i need a nive and trusted person.i need a nive and trusted person.i need a nive and trusted person.i need a nive and trusted person."

Does "nive" mean "nice" or "naive"? And "trusted" might as well mean "trusting" ...
