I was moaning to my dad how I lost some female friends and he said

"If you scowl at people and have a violent persona about you it's not wonder you drive them away"

How was my dad trying to help me by saying that?

Perhaps he was trying to make you aware of facial expression and body language which could give others the impression that you are unfriendly.

Could you ask your dad what his intention was in saying what he said?

He thinks it's your personality that's driving people away. People don't want to be around too much negativity. What's the violent part?

Girls like moody men?
I would probably be a bit afraid of a guy who looks moody.

Get people you know - friends, family - to walk you through this rather than bite-size remarks. Get them to take photos or videos of you, or even stand with you in front of a mirror. Ask them to be clear on what you're doing wrong, and what you should do instead.

I assume your 'at ease' face is a scowly one. Look up the phenomenom of 'resting b***h face'.

Some women like moody and intense. Some don't. As with everything, it varies. But thinking back to your post about staring, I don't think many women (or men, for that matter) like being stared at by someone with a scowly look to their face.

First, you need to start asking those people that you have questions about. Second, he MAY be of the opinion that you scowl at people and have a violent personality. Third, he MAY have been hinting that if you smiled more and had a more peaceful personality, you would not drive people away.

I mean, try parsing his sentence in the appropriate context some time.
