A girl I don't know that well (she's my mom's friend's daughter) called me "hun" over a Facebook PM. I'm assuming that's short for honey but I'm not sure. I also said something nice to her, just being friendly, and she responded with "AWWWW". I can't read people well. Is she possibly flirting with me. I'm not really into her because I don't know her, I'm just wondering.

Usually its her just being nice! Just because someone is calling you hun or sweety doesnt necessarily mean they are flirting with you.

Is she Southern?
If so it means nothing. If not it might mean platonic affection, it might mean romantic affection, it might mean nothing significant.

It's definitely not a bad thing.

Here in the South it doesn't mean anything. A woman might call a total stranger hun or sugar.

It's funny because once a man calls a woman honey or sugar or whatever, her default response is that you are harassing her. :roll:

Eaxactly I spent 4 years in Texas and have had women call me sweetheart it means nothing!

Here it's habibi (or 'hayete') and it means nothing - can be from female friends to males.

Weird that it is way less used by male friends to females tho ('habibti')

It doesn't mean anything. It's an endearing term commonly used for other people.
I've been called it by women and gay guys.

"Hun" is a term of endearment in Baltimore-ese, and in Southern speech in general.

Just look in the Balimorese website; you'll see what I mean.

It probably doesn't mean she's flirting with you--it just means she regards you as a nice guy in a Platonic sense.

I used to call all my female co-workers "hon". Never any harassment suits ! They were kinda friends - we were a unit. Even called my Dept. manager hon
