This has been a fascinating exploration into the mindset of boys, men, and women in a FPS setting, and I am appreciative of you giving, we "Boys" in particular, some greater insight.

Ladies, gentlemen, and the gender diverse,
That concludes the interview, for this secession.
If there are any questions, the opportunity to ask is now.

Refreshments are in the foyer area.

But before we conclude, I would like to announce the winner of the lucky door prize.
The winner is: sly279.
Congratulations.

And the prize is a three-course dinner date with our lovely, charming, TomBoy, Miss LunaticCentruroides herself. 8)

The heck?! You fooled me, you bastard! :lmao:

"The prize" was dinner with you, not you.

Well, as long as I don't have to pay for the food, I'm always down

I just had to pull this up again! I’m an old lady, so my gaming experience is with old games. I’ve never been in to team gaming. I don’t like teams IRL either. But I did like the first person shooter games. I was tempted to comment when this thread was new, but my experience is dated.

I live in a rural area and get some wildlife in my yard. The other day this huge, black rabbit came up on our porch and I called out to my husband “That’s no ordinary rabbit!” We had to laugh because that’s one of the lines from Lo Wang, a DOS based first person shooter type game. Lo had all kinds of weaponry to use to deal with rabbits, apes, bees and humans. My husband and I had to take turns at the PC. Lo had many classic lines we continue to use - Ooooh, such a tiny thing! Or - it go boom!

Our first first person shooter game was very basic: Blake Stone - Aliens of Gold. (I just googled it. Who knew there was a plot, lol.) My husband still doesn’t forgive me for shooting a good guy medic to use as a door stop. I wanted to see into a room you weren’t allowed to enter. I figured it was worth a bonus, but nothing.... It took a lot of practice to get him just as he came running through the door! That game is where I learned the term BFG.

We did Doom etc., but much preferred Duke Nukem. We still use that mousepad! And there was Blood with it’s various releases. And later Half Life.

There were a few others whose names I don’t remember. We never made the shift over to console games, so our shooting days died out as the Windows OS changed. (Although I still have a Thinkpad laptop with Windows 98 on it and most of the games).

I am of the (old) Doom and beyond generation. I thought Doom was the real first FPS?

Blake Stone beat Doom by one week!
