And "through internet" is not equal to "dating sites".
A couple of couples met even on WP.

Also worth note, there wasn't a whole lot of internet in existence in 1995, and there were significantly fewer people alive in 1995, vs today. So it's entirely possible that the same number of people are meeting offline, and that the increase in online meetings reflects an increase in population. Simply put, online meeting didn't replace other methods in the pool, but merely added an additional method to the pool - cos percents don't reflect absolute values.

The article is about dating apps, not about relationships. That there are vacuous and superficial people (mostly women, according to this?) on dating apps is unfortunate but it really doesn't have to do with the ability to form relationships, which can and perhaps need to happen in real life and not on an app.

There are an equal number of heterosexual men and women. If a given number of hetero men are dropping out of looking for a partner, then just as many hetero women will find themselves unable to meet a partner. The premise doesn't really hold up.

It only holds up regarding casual dating, if many women are only willing to date a small subset of men. But who wants to be going on all these casual dates? I don't find that appealing, nor did I when I was young.

True, but problem is…. finding someone nowadays is usually through the internet.

If 39% of couples are meeting online, that means that 61% aren't...

I should had said « more likely than ever », but that trend is increasing, I dunno what’s the figure like in 2023.

^ From the article:

Quote:
- In 2023 384 million people worldwide are expected to use online dating.
- Online dating is most popular in the US, with 21.9% of the population using it.
- The dating app market brought in a massive $5.61 billion in revenue in 2021.
- Two in every five couples met online.
- Nearly 3 in 20 people (14.7%) have had a relationship that’s lasted longer than a year after online dating.
- 54% of Americans say meeting online makes no difference to whether the relationship works out or not.
- 80% of Tinder
- 80% of Tinder users claim to be looking for a meaningful relationship.
- 36% of men say that they’re using online dating for sex, compared to just 14% of women.
- 61% of online daters want to meet people with shared interests.
- 7% of people who have ever used dating apps or websites have used them to cheat on asignificant other.
- Tinder is the dating app that has the most global users.

"2 in every 5 couples met online?" That would include online forums and social media I would assume.

It does, there’s no way to know the breakdown of it.

Also from the article:

Quote:
Here are the most common ways people in the States say they meet partners these days:

Online (39%)
Bars/restaurants (27%)
Through friends (20%)
At work (11%)
At school (9%)
Through family (7%)

That means 74% of couples don't meet online.

27 + 20 + 11 + 9 + 7 = 74.

That's far more than 39% meeting online.

I'm wondering if the numbers are messed up or if it could be explained by something like: some people met people online through (online) friends, so it counted in both the online and friends categories.

The site seems rather suspect in my opinion.

The question is not exclusive. People can meet dates online but also in real life scenarios.

Many women do not feel comfortable using online dating apps.

Quote:
Starting in 2023, they're going to implement privacy features for female users, in addition to safeguards that prevent abusive messages from being sent. With a safer and more pleasant experience for everyone, it's a good time to get in the water!

As it stands, here's Tinder's gender statistics, but you can expect them to change very soon:
75% of Tinder users are male.
24% of Tinder users are female.

The Tinder male-to-female ratio is still horribly lopsided, but Tinder's latest marketing push is to attract more women and make them feel safer on Tinder versus other dating apps.

Of note is that the graph ends before 2020, so the % of those who meet online is likely significantly higher now, maybe even over 50%

I don’t get it.

Just because it’s hard to date women on apps doesn’t mean that people should feel compelled to give up on dating altogether. Most couples don’t meet on apps.
