What do you think of Bill's advice? Outdated, or relevant?

Are women still expected to create the impression of passivity while waiting to be approached by men? Was this ever really the case?

I am no youngster and not updated on the latest dating trends, but I think he was funny and the advice sounded fairly relevant. I have always experienced women only to be passive in theory, pretending to be as long as there are other people around. When one one one I think most of the women I have met have been rather straight forward and I have to give them most of the credit for moving things forward.

These days, you see a lot of advice telling lonely, frustrated young men what they should do to join society and score a woman.

But, if it is the case that huge numbers of young men are hunkered down in their masturbatoria, then one would think that there would be a lot of romantically-frustrated women. Perhaps there should be more advice directed at women on how to lure men away from their pornography and video games.

Bill Maher comes off as the sort of guy who has to pay for companionship so I'm not sure he has anything worthwhile to tell people about how to develop relationships.

A lot of women enjoy pornography and video games too. In addition to that, most of us wouldn’t be interested in luring someone away from something they enjoy and would, apparently, rather do.

Most of what Maher had to say in the video is outdated. Well, good hygiene and not sending dick pics are still relevant. Women can also tell when someone is looking at their boobs or whatever even when a guy thinks he’s being discrete about it. Just because we didn’t say anything doesn’t mean we didn’t notice. Viewing women as fellow humans who aren’t all that different is a good idea because it’s true.

The rest seemed outdated to me.

That's a bit of an ad hominem fallacy--just because he is an old man who hires prostitutes doesn't mean that his advice to young men is wrong. Joshua Hawley, a Senator from Missouri, wrote a book that made a lot of the same points.

Bill Maher also has the advantage of being a celebrity, and when you are a celebrity, as Orange Jesus pointed out, "you can do anything." Iago's advice to Rodrigo was "put money in thy purse", although it didn't end well.

When Bill Mayer was young, a lot of teenaged girls, who had been brought up with Disney Princess movies, fantasized about getting married to a handsome prince. Now, young women, by and large, are much more focused on establishing their careers.

Some women seem rather coy about it--I mean, dressing seductively, and then being offended when our eyes are drawn to the parts that are being emphasized.

Women usually just want to dress how they want to without creepy comments, stares, groping, etc.

A low cut shirt or short skirt is not an invitation.

What is seductive though? like people have bodies...women have boobs we can't entirely hide those. And especially in the summer when it's freaking hot out a lot of people are wearing skimpier clothes to avoid over heating, not because they want people creeping on them.

I don't think it's so wrong to take a glance, like I glance at people I find attractive. But the thing is not to stare and make them uncomfortable. If one wants to oogle at womens bodies, they can go to a strip club.

Someone else I wouldn't look to for relationship guidance.

A gammon who visits hookers has little useful insight to give regarding unpaid companionship. If he knew how to receive unpaid companionship he wouldn't pay, but also people who are being paid for their time tend to be more tolerant of bad behaviour.

I am no mindreader but in my experience most women take no offence if you are "looking at their boobs" as long as it's more like a swift glance and they think you are trying to be discrete. On the contrary, they seem to take it as a validation that you find them physically attractive and it encourages them to take initiatives if they are interested themselves. In my view there is no opposition between respecting women and view them as fellow humans and at the same time find the view of certain parts of their bodies sexually attractive.

I remember way back when there were magazines (and, for younger members, a magazine was like a website, but with articles and photographs printed on glossy paper), there were women's magazines that carried advice, such as tips on how to make a man lose biologic control in the driveway...I think those magazines have gone away. There are still magazines in grocery stores, but I don't think that anyone buys them any more--they are just there for show. Now, I guess that some women are looking to Tick Tock for advice. Some of which can be dangerous.

There was also a time when men were generally shamed for being lecherous patriarchs. Now, men are being shamed for not being lecherous and patriarchal enough. At least for the standards of Bill Maher and Josh Hawley.

Well, the woman at the 9:10 mark in Bill Maher's video, which he is holding as an example of what not to look at. 8O

I did not consider it flattering in any way whenever I’ve experienced it although I’ve never let on that it bothered me or made me uncomfortable.

Obviously, I’d feel a bit differently if it was someone I was already involved with. Otherwise, I’d prefer to be treated like a male acquaintance. I’m not a mind reader, but I’m pretty sure bros don’t go around checking out other bros’ moobs or butts. I certainly don’t.
