Friends in Hawaii

Hello All,
My partner is a 29 year old male with AS. He's never really been good at making/keeping friends. He's a hyper intelligent person who is insanely interesting. He's has a lot of trouble being interested in others though. I know he wishes he had friends and feels very lonely sometimes. This summer I have to leave him for three months to complete an externship. In the nine years we've been together I've only been away one other time and it was very rough on him.

Does anyone live on the North Shore of Oahu? My partner is a lifelong surfer, but also very "nerdy" ie sci-fi, video games etc. He does not get along with most surfers, who he sees as one dimensional humans (also the majority of the pop. here). I'm feeling bad leaving him during the summer when there's no waves. I don't want him to end up sitting inside all the time because this generally bring about bouts of depression which he is prone to. Any suggestions? Some people seem to really like him, but many are offput by his socially awkward behavior. Any coping mechanisms? How do some of the AS users cope with loneliness, or make life changes?

Maybe you could tell him about this site? It's not quite the interaction he's looking for, but I think it'll make him feel a lot better knowing he's not alone in this.
