A little awkward
Ok so I'm at college at the moment, its my 3rd week in and I've started to get to know the peers/teachers.
We have this teacher who does keep on about sex or references sex so my peers that I talk to half the time made a joke about he is in a dry spell to which I find hilarious, now today when me and my peers came into the hallway next to the door we are suppose to go in, he comes out with a woman in a empty room and after they left I said "I guess his dry spell is over" as a laugh but some of them looked at me weird, I don't know if this is because they are only 16 while I'm 18 or what, I thought it was funny.
Could someone give me some insight on this?
They may have not been amused because of the context in which you said this.
The woman was leaving the room (I presume it was a classroom). In your joking comment - you implied that the prof was having sexual relations with this woman in this classroom.
In most colleges - there are serious consequences for professors who are accused of having sexual relations with students or acting inappropriately in the classrooms. By making this comment - your peers might have thought you were implying that the prof was acting inappropriately or unprofessionally. In addition, you were implying that the woman was acting inappropriately. They probably knew you were joking - but there are some things that are off-limits to joking. Implying that this young professor is having sex in a classroom with a student is one of them.
I'll give an example from one the ladies I went to nursing school with shared with me. She was in the hall of a long term care facility (nursing home) where she was a student nurse. The other nurses who were mentoring her were a jovial bunch and she enjoyed bantering with them. While helping an elderly patient with their care, the patient indicated that they were nervous. The student nurse, in innocence, said, "Don't worry, these a good guys, they won't start beating on you." The nurse mentors got serious for a moment, and advised her, "He (the patient) knows you are joking and we know that you are joking, however, please don't ever make that kind of joke again, abuse is a serious issue."'
I am not sure if it would be helpful for us to start a new thread about things that should be off limits for making "jokes" or light hearted comments about. Some NTs who are particularly skillful socially MIGHT be able to get away with this kind of stuff (think Jon Stewart of the Daily Show or Seth Rogen) - but for the most part - it would be wise for Aspies and others who are less skilled socially and comedically to stay away from certain topics.
BTW - I hope that you are otherwise enjoying college life - both academically and socially!

It wasn't another student, it was another teacher that looked a little bit older then he was.
If it was teacher/student I wouldn't of made the joke but since it was two teachers, I thought it was funny.

Maybe you shouldn't have made the joke in front of the professor, or in public, or wherever you were, so they pretended like they didn't understand.
By the way, they're sixteen and in college? How did they get there? Did they skip two grades? I've just turned seventeen and I'm in college, and I only skipped one grade!
