I treated my only two friends to dinner last night as a Christmas present and to say thanks for being my friend. I didn't say that in person - I'm not comfortable saying those things to people face to face but I told them the gist on Facebook.

Neither of them said thank you at any point after I paid the bill. It made me feel very empty inside.

I know I'll get over it soon and I'll wind up saying, "at least I have friends now".

Whatvere advice you can offer, any insights, quips, words of wisdom would be helpful.

Grue, it could be a number of things. They could have forgotten. I know, it sounds awful and very rude, but it happens. They might just not be in the habit of thanking people. Our society is becoming more thankless as time goes on, it seems. If they're close friends, just don't worry about it. I'm sure that they still feel the same way about you. It could just be one of those things.
