When I'm walking towards someone I know (at work for example), I always wait to see if they smile and say 'Hi' first.

but by the time they have said Hi, the person has passed me and I don't get the chance to reply back.

I've only just begun to realise I have a real problem with this and it must give other ppl the impression that I'm ignoring them.

although I don't have a problem with ppl I know really well. I always smile when I see them.

Anyone got any ideas that can help me with this???

i do this too, try taking signing lessons for deaf people, it really encourages you to make eye contact and read and more importantly give the proper facial expressions

I find that I need to make a concious effort to maintian Eye-Contact. I often find myself looking away and I need to remind myself to look the other person in the eye.

Anyway, yes. I find it's better if you make sure that the person actually knows you're listening to what they're saying in a conversation. The thing I have a bit of difficulty with when people say hello is when they ask if I'm all reet. I often don't have chance to respond before they've either disappeared or they're too far down the road for me to respond.

There's this girl that stared in my general direction a lot of the time, and me being afraid of eye contact have to look the other way till she stops looking. From what I've gathered, I think it's a look of curiosity.

I tend to avoid looking at people because I tend to get 'lost' in their eyes which provokes the 'staring' responses and yeh...I'll shush now.

Ak, can't look directly into the eyes of scouse NTs, they can suck your souls out that way!


Uhm, no, I don't really believe that.

I am unable to look folks in the eyes..I gain an unbearable sense of being x-rayed..like I'm trapped..under an enchantment that prevents my escaping their intimidating glance. I've attempted several times to establish this connection with people, but to no avail, this being a few years past, I ended up completely avoidin folks for past experiences and things I've observed, and I doubt I'll re-attempt the eye-contact skill anytime soon..perhaps one day though...

I rarely look people in the eye, unless it is a professor or something, and I feel that I have to. When people do smile at me, I rarely smile back. Usually I am not sure if they are actually smiling at me or another person. By the time I assume it was directed at me, we have passed each other.

I can' make eye contact easily...

I can't make eye contact for too long. I have to look away. I look at peoples mouths when speaking to them.

Yeah, its hard for me to maintain eye contact. However, I will do so if I like the person or if he/she is really interesting.
