Mods, I don't know if this is the right place but since vacationing requires being social just to get there, usually, I thought it made sense here.
I mentioned on another thread where I liked to go on vacation. I thought it might be nice if we had a thread for places that are nice, out of the way or not, where we like going but for one specific purpose: Because others might also like it.
Of course, we all have different tastes. We also all have different levels where things annoy us; I'm much closer to PDD-NOS than Asperger's but while it's mostly the nonverbal cues and not external stmuli that bother me, I can at least try to be helpful. And, you will all understand if one of my ideas isn't, I am not malicious, merely incompetent, as I said in another thread.
Treasure Island, Florida is one place I'd recommend. Even with kids out of school, Florida gets really hot in the summer so you might be okay in July there, but April and may are better if you don't like crowds. The beach is 500 feet or more from the motels to the Gulf, and enough different people go there that it would be fine for singles, people are nice and friendly and you can get an airport shuttle to take you there and you can just walk to different restaurants. Of course, seagulls are very high pitched, so some people might find their squawking more annoying than I do. It's one of thsoe times I'm glad I have poorer hearing.
I really enjoy the museums in Washington; now that's a place (along with many museums) where you want to go when it's not a school vacation or summer. Museums are always a lot of fun for me, and since groups often split up you won't be looked at as odd if you're exploring by yourself. Although there are guided tours, too. I also have really enjoyed Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Boston museums. Of course, the last 2 are heavily on Revolutionary War stuff. And, as I noted, people do travel there on their own, but if you are leery just find out enough about some local team and leave clues like you are going or have been to a game. It's the "man cave vacation"-type thing.
So, anybody have other Aspie vacation ideas?
Not shere if this really fits in but I'm just super nervice to even scared of being around a lot of people I don't know and a new enviermental just multiplys all of it five times over.
However my idea as a mini vacation, for me anyways, is to go on a few day hike / adventure along the long trail in Vermont or the application trail in the White mountains. Run into smaller groups of people or just one at a time all spread out and really cool to hear where they all come from and where there going. .
I wouldn't go solo on a vacation.
I don't know how to organize it. I don't know how to book a room, how to use public transport to get to the place... It's all too complicated, too uncertain. I need someone who guides me through the basics. Once I get there, have a place to live and money for food I can take care of myself and have fun no matter where I am, discovering the new surroundings step by step. But someone has to set it up for me first.
Yeah, Florida is a nice place to visit really. If you are travelling solo, my advice for you is to book airport transfer in advance. It is really vital. I always use http://kiwitaxi.com service for such a purpose. It is very reliable and affordable. I hope, it will help you while travelling
