How do I tell my relatives to be quiet while they consume beverages?

Obvious answer - tell them "please don't slurp when you drink, the noise bothers me."
Is there some reason why that hasn't worked?
If relatives won't stop doing that around me, I will either refuse to eat when they are eating or even be in the same room with them eating, or the TV is on loud enough to drown out the noise. I CANNOT and will not tolerate that noise. If they can't accommodate this, then we can not be in the same room when they are consuming anything.
