It turns out that the correlation between the number of babies born from an average pregnancy and the number of breasts on an animal species creeps some women out. Still no harm done, we just changed the topic.

Obviously it all depends, but these are usually no-nos.

:!: Animal sex
:!: Economics
:!: The specifics of your menstrual cycle
:!: Food intolerances
:!: The periodic table

I will come back with more later...

Uhm. I've talked about some of the these things listed, but always over the internet and first time talking to them. Is that also a no-no?

Things the other person is not interested in mainly. Even if it's hard to refrain from talking about such things. And anything really bloody or obscure usually isn't a good idea.

Things I don't want to hear is about the great party someone went to last week and got pissed and woke up with a guy called Greg...

Things I've been told not to talk about are as follows:

sex and sexual terms to strangers or older relatives
the rabbit's digestive system at dinner time (they eat their own s**t)
cuss words

I don't like to talk about politics because I don't like hearing the other person's opinions if they are opposite to mine. I hate debates. They p**s me off.

I still talk about the no no subjects anyway because I just don't care...

Wrong, people enjoy these topics, or some people do if you can have a healthy debate. Personal life is ok, if its a good friend. God you are so ret*d.

I guess I meant when someone brags about their personal life most of the time.

It's almost always a bad idea to talk about how awesome you are, or about how stupid the person you are talking with is.

In fact, I think intelligence is something that it is safer to avoid talking about.

Anything that is shocking, gross, or really personal.

it really depends on the person/situation but in general i try to avoid religion and politics. my reasons for this is that most people seem to get defensive and argumentative when you talk about these subjects so it's difficult to have an intelligent discussion about them. sex is iffy. normally i try to stay away from the topic with people i don't know, but there have been a few times where the subject has come up and i've had very amusing conversations about them with people i had never met before.

also, personal things like ADHD, AS, that kind of thing are generally best left for your close friends and family. I'm more open about my ADHD since there's less of a stigma associated with it but i only bring it up if it's relevant to the conversation and if i feel the people around are the kind of people i feel comfortable telling about it.

and of course you should stay away from anything shocking or gross, unless the people around you bring it up, and even then be careful to sensor yourself because even when people bring up disturbing subjects, they don't necessarily want as much detail as you may be able to offer. better safe than sorry.

Autism. That debate might get ugly.
