Laptop Lifetime

I just bought a Gateway laptop in October and I was wondering what the average lifetime of a laptop was? What events and factors affect it? Would being on a laptop all day affect its lifetime as compared to a desktop? If someone could answer these questions it would be of major help?

Depends on how you use it but at best 18 months before its obsolete.

I mean, how long until it wears out, in other words, the usable lifetime

Followed up by how often you spill liquids like coffee on it. -For the record, however, I've had my current laptop ( Bought used rather cheaply) since 2003. The original 20 gig Hard drive (which still functions) has been replaced with a 100 gig Hard drive. I think that the graphics chipset might be going on it, but the computer itself still functions.

I you use it for a long period of time powered by electricity instead of battery, remove your battery, it will prolonged your battery lifetime.

Battery is the first thing who will break after around 2 years.
