That is part of the problem. The names of the authors, and their credentials, are not provided. Anyone can edit Wikipedia. That makes it almost useless as an academic resource.

Yes, they are. If you know where to look (It's not difficult to find out who wrote and edited and how reliable they are).

People can say anything they want on their personal Wikipedia pages. The main problem is that anyone can edit an article. There is no peer review. Sometimes it takes years to have a mistake corrected.

Why do people bash Islam?

Well, here are a few suras from the Book of the Prophet (the Koran):

Allah is an enemy to unbelievers. - Sura 2:98

On unbelievers is the curse of Allah. - Sura 2:161

Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. - 2:191

Fight against them until idolatry is no more and Allah's religion reigns supreme. (different translation: ) Fight them until there is no persecution and the religion is God's entirely. - Sura 2:193 and 8:39

Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it. - 2:216

If you should die or be killed in the cause of Allah, His mercy and forgiveness would surely be better than all they riches they amass. If you should die or be killed, before Him you shall all be gathered. - 3:157-8

You must not think that those who were slain in the cause of Allah are dead. They are alive, and well-provided for by their Lord. - Surah 3:169-71

Let those fight in the cause of God who sell the life of this world for the hereafter. To him who fights in the cause of God, whether he is slain or victorious, soon we shall give him a great reward. - Surah 4:74

Those who believe fight in the cause of God, and those who reject faith fight in the cause of evil. - 4:76

But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever you find them. - 4:89

Therefore, we stirred among them enmity and hatred, which shall endure till the Day of Resurrection, when Allah will declare to them all that they have done. - 5:14

O believers, take not Jews and Christians as friends; they are friends of each other. Those of you who make them his friends is one of them. God does not guide an unjust people. - 5:54

Make war on them until idolatry is no more and Allah's religion reigns supreme - 8:39

O Prophet! Exhort the believers to fight. If there are 20 steadfast men among you, they shall vanquish 200; and if there are a hundred, they shall rout a thousand unbelievers, for they are devoid of understanding. - 8:65

It is not for any Prophet to have captives until he has made slaughter in the land. - 8:67

Allah will humble the unbelievers. Allah and His apostle are free from obligations to idol-worshipers. Proclaim a woeful punishment to the unbelievers. - 9:2-3

When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them. - 9:5

Believers! Know that idolators are unclean. - 9:28

Fight those who believe neither in God nor the Last Day, nor what has been forbidden by God and his messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, even if they are People of the Book, until they pay the tribute and have been humbled. - 9:29 (another source: ) The unbelievers are impure and their abode is hell. (another source: ) Humiliate the non-Muslims to such an extent that they surrender and pay tribute.

Whether unarmed or well-equipped, march on and fight for the cause of Allah, with your wealth and your persons. - 9:41

O Prophet! Make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites. Be harsh with them. Their ultimate abode is hell, a hapless journey's end. - 9:73

Allah has purchased of their faithful lives and worldly goods, and in return has promised them the Garden. They will fight for His cause, kill and be killed. - 9:111

Fight unbelievers who are near to you. 9:123 (different translation:
Believers! Make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Let them find harshness in you. (another source: ) Ye who believe! Murder those of the disbelievers....

As for those who are slain in the cause of Allah, He will not allow their works to perish. He will vouchsafe them guidance and ennoble their state; He will admit them to the Paradise He has made known to them. - 10:4-15

Allah has cursed the unbelievers and proposed for them a blazing hell. - 33:60

Unbelievers are enemies of Allah and they will roast in hell. - 41:14

When you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks, then when you have made wide slaughter among them, tie fast the bonds, then set them free, either by grace or ransom, until the war lays down its burdens. - 47:4
(different translation: ) When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield, strike off their heads, and when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly.

Those who are slain in the way of Allah - he will never let their deeds be lost. Soon will he guide them and improve their condition, and admit them to the Garden, which he has announced for them. - 47:5

Muslims are harsh against the unbelievers, merciful to one another. - 48:25

Muhammad is Allah's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another. Through them, Allah seeks to enrage the unbelievers. - 48:29

Prophet! Make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal sternly with them. Hell shall be their home, evil their fate. - 66:9

The unbelievers among the People of the Book and the pagans shall burn forever in the fire of hell. They are the vilest of all creatures. - 98:51

Maybe, maybe not. I've never read the whole thing so I don't know.
The difference is that we, unlike our Islamic friends, tend not to practice the darker side of our religion as described in our Bible in modern times.

There's a lot of stuff on Wikipedia that only has the mainstream media as its primary source - and there's the old saying of do you believe everything you read in the newspapers?!

I'm inclined to say that Wikipedia has managed to turn material published in news sources that is biased, half-truths, poorly researched, or just plain fabricated by journalists into what large sections of the public consider to be factual information. They naively believe that if it makes it to Wikipedia then it must be true even if they would otherwise dispute the original source.

When one compares the way of life in a country like the US that is protected by oceans as compared to heterogeneous smaller countries in the middle East with completely different state sponsored ideologies...it is comparing apples to oranges...

If we lived in a 'multi-countried' desert region in the US...state sponsored ideologies would be more prone to violence too as there is not nearly as much territorial dispute as an issue for political ideology or religion in the US.

In Europe the Protestant Catholic divisions in Ireland are the same thing; we do not face this in the US because it is a much larger country without the tradition of war on homeland soil...

The Quran reflects the culture at the time it was written as do all religious text...
But and the big but! is that the Universal elements of truth for cooperation and light among beings definitely still exists both in the New Testament and the Quran...

The ignorance is any thought that any human is infallible and does not mistakes in any written texts...

The additional ignorance is any thought that the actual words in either text are either the actual full text of the man who is called the Prophet in the middle east and/or the man called Jesus...if he fully existed...

Muhammad is an historical warrior...humans are still warriors at heart...for those that hold the greater propensity for that aspect of DNA...

One cannot compare a warrior philosopher with someone in an Ivory tower...the stakes of life have always been life or death...it is only recent that mankind has had an opportunity to move away for passion of life...to rest with many sources of instant gratification...

A paradise of sex already exists in the US...one can dine on virgins or whatever... with a quick trip to 'slutload'...along with ten thousand or more other sites.. The look of youth is prized and desire of the dark brown eyes dilated...those are the prized eyes for the 'money shot', if you will...

Since broadband internet access and free sex for all...in the US and other countries humans are moving back to egalitarianism and someday possibly a move greater toward matriarchy...

The entire conflict in the world is based on simple animal dominance...male vs female...and territory...man is still an animal at heart...where there is competition for mates...and territory...

Pornography is changing all of this...as anyone can have the desired brown eyes a thousand times a million times depending on how much time one has with a screen, Google and a keyboard to paradise...who needs to fight when you got that...it takes two hands to win hand to hand combat...

What will change the whole equation is access to pornography in the middle east...free love for all as promised in the 60's is here on a 4 inch screen with earplugs for moaning...the middle east is waiting patiently for their fix too...

Better yet is access to You tube...they don't get the opportunity for the frequencies and beats of music available now in the US that would put any African tribal ceremony with drums and drugs to shame...there are sources of bliss available everywhere one looks in the US....

And to the point where welfare recipients can join in on all the fun too...

You don't change religion until you change culture...pornography is killing any opportunity for the future of organized religion in the US...the opiates are now a vagina for the males in the country that are hooked and about a third of females...those who have the extra dose of testosterone to aggression for opposite or same sex...

I've been immersed in the female mind of the Muslim culture in the last several weeks and they are pretty powerful creatures of hidden lust and passion...they do have twitter and Facebook which has some limitations...but a person can hide almost anything lustful in coded words of text...

They are only humans just as anyone else is anywhere...

The desire only grows stronger when the sex parts are covered up...

It is a much more erotic culture than a 5 minute internet hookup...to someone you'll never meet..

Basically they got the passion...the US lost it...pornography killed it...everyone is sitting back fat and happy with a smile...

What the world needs for world peace is 'slutload' in the middle eastern desert too...

The closest extant primate cousin of humans is the Bonobo...those guys live a life of matriarchal 'free love' without all the jealousy and competition that results from monogamy...

In effect, humans in the west are becoming more orientated toward the Bonobo...the perfect primate culture....well not quite perfect...but a place where everyone greets each other with sexual gestures...it's harder to get angry with a hard on...to use an analogy...if you will..

Pornography is the savior of the world beyond any other device known to modern man...just gotta work to get it going in the others countries too....so once again humans will live in a world of Bonobo free love and 'light' will toward others...

Jesus was a Bonobo...to use another analogy...scary stuff for the Jewish patriarchs but....not bad for all the homosexuals that ran the church... keeping up the ways of Jesus to keep the free love going just a little bit...

Highly unlikely that the real dude Jesus if he fully existed was an effeminate kinda guy...but almost every modern representation is a gal with a beard...pretty boy with pretty eyes that enjoys the guys and the gals...kinda prophecy in a picture, if you will, of what would happen when all the d*** and P***** is free for all with a screen and a keyboard and magic words to a million virgins in paradise...as well as knights in shining armor...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonobo

It's gonna happen sooner or later...in the Middle East... most everyone wants to go to 'slutload' when all is said and done...it is pretty hard stuff to avoid for many healthy human beings...lots easier to have it now than to die for it...

Already got a thread going if anyone else is more interested in getting to the root of the problem and fixing instead of just moaning and groaning without an orgasm...if you will...HAha...it's kinda funny but it's the truth....ask a Bonobo…he or she will show you the way...

Newspapers are not academic sources either. However, at least with a newspaper, the identities of the writers and reporters can be confirmed.

The mass exodus of Christians from the Muslim world
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom recently said: “The flight of Christians out of the region is unprecedented and it’s increasing year by year.” In our lifetime alone “Christians might disappear altogether from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Egypt.” [...] Now, as the U.S. supports the jihad on Syria’s secular president Assad, the same pattern has come to Syria: entire regions and towns where Christians lived for centuries before Islam came into being have now been emptied, as the opposition targets Christians for kidnapping, plundering, and beheadings, all in compliance with mosque calls telling the populace that it’s a “sacred duty” to drive Christians away.

Blasphemy, the ‘crime’ that cannot be spoken
Imagine being hung upside down by your feet. Electric wires are tied around your ankles and you’re threatened repeatedly with electrocution. In addition, you are frequently pulled from your cell so that the police can beat you viciously. Why? Because someone accused you of making inflammatory statements about God. And even though your accuser later recanted his allegation, you were still “tried” for the crime of blasphemy, convicted and then sentenced to life imprisonment. Think about that: spending the rest of your life in prison for the “crime” of speaking your mind.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/on- ... be-spoken/

Halal: A Taste of Terror
Government advisory bodies, like the Farm Animal Welfare Council and the British Veterinary Association in the UK, have produced reports and made declarations saying that ritual slaughter causes ”intolerable cruelty” and have repeatedly demanded that it be banned. To get an idea of the extent of this phenomenon, one of the most influential halal certification bodies, the Halal Food Authority, now estimates that a staggering 25% of the entire UK meat market is halal. But Muslims are about 5% of the UK population, therefore there is as much as 5 times more halal meat than Muslims. In Britain halal meat is routinely served and sold to non-Muslims who don’t even know that they’re eating it, let alone want to do so.

An ex-Muslim targeted for speaking on Islam and Sharia Law
A press release by Council Of Ex-Muslims of Britain says that Sudanese ex-Muslim and secular campaigner Nahla Mahmoud has been threatened (with death threats) by Islamists following her interview on Channel 4. She has been called ‘Kafira’,'Murtada’ who has offended Islam and brought ‘Fitna’,as the press release points out.

Mursi’s overthrow puts Egypt’s fearful Christians in a corner
It was nighttime and 10,000 Islamists were marching down the most heavily Christian street in this ancient Egyptian city, chanting “Islamic, Islamic, despite the Christians.” A half-dozen kids were spray-painting “Boycott the Christians” on walls, supervised by an adult. [...] For the 40 percent of Assiut people who are Christian, life has changed radically. They find their apartment blocks disfigured by painted crosses with a red X painted over them. They stay at home at night. Churches have cancelled afternoon activities. Some of the wealthy have left town. [...] This week, in a village in the province of Minya south of Cairo, a pro-military song playing on a coffee shop radio sparked an argument between a Muslim and a Christian, and the next day a mob of thousands ransacked Christian homes and stores and tried to storm a church. At least 18 people were injured and arrests warrants issued for 35.

The Mass Jailing of Turkish Secularists
the government fears journalists’ ability to shape public opinion. Every single one of the arrested and convicted journalists is an ideological secularist, with a long history of criticism aimed at the ruling AK Parti. These professionals now have to pay for their outspokenness by spending many years, if not the rest of their lives, in jail. One of them, the aforementioned Tuncay Özkan, was even sentenced to life in solitary confinement. How were the prosecutors able to do that? Simple: they accused all the suspects of being members (or at least supportive) of a terrorist organization. That way, the judges could carry out higher sentences than would normally be the case. As a result, journalists will be imprisoned for many years, even decades, rather than months (or not at all).

France's Loss is Israel's Gain
In the past few days, around 400 Jews have left France to live in Israel because of the unbearable anti-Semitism in their home country. Another 300 French Jews are expected to arrive in Israel over the next few weeks, rising to 2,500 by the end of the year. Many of those who make Aliyah cite Muslim anti-Semitism as the reason for leaving. To illustrate the point, a recent report by the Service de Protection de la Communaute Juive (SPCJ) contains some unedifying figures. Physical and verbal attacks against Jews in France have increased by 82 per cent, rising from 171 cases in 2011 to 315 cases in 2012. Worryingly, a quarter of these incidents involved the use of a weapon.[...] French Jews speak of a climate of fear in France. Most of the attacks take place on the street and on public transport. Many Jews say they are afraid to read Hebrew books on the trains or wear a Star of David in public. Paris is the worst place to live if you are Jewish. Indeed, the number of anti-Semitic incidents in the capital vastly outstrips Judeophobic incidents in Marseille, Lyon and Strasbourg.

The Mosque: Center of Religion, Politics and Dominance
Virtually all sides in Syria (excepting only the Kurds and the outnumbered pro-democracy forces within the FSA) see things from a "zero-sum-game" theological perspective: whichever side wins is expected to unleash holy genocide on every other group not aligned with it. Ethnic Christians in Syria are already the victims of what Nina Shea, director of the Hudson Institute's Center for Religious Freedom, has called "ethno-religious cleansing."

When a Mass-Murdering Soldier of Allah Is Not a Terrorist
If someone looks like a Muslim terrorist, identifies as a soldier of Allah, is mentored by a Muslim terrorist and then slaughters Americans on a military base in cold blood in the name of Allah, that person is obviously a Muslim terrorist—unless, of course, that person is Nidal Malik Hasan, the accused Fort Hood mass murderer. [...] The US government "continues to deny that the Fort Hood massacre was an act of Islamic terrorism, to the point of complete delusion.

Don't Dress My Sons With Suicide Belts
29 suicide attacks were carried out by youth under the age of 18 in 2000-2003, the bloody peak of the Second Intifada. [...] IDF soldiers who participated in Operation Defensive Shield reported that children were often left behind to trigger booby-traps that terrorists set for Israeli troops. [...] You will recall the recent attack on David Be'eri and his 13-year old son as they drove through the streets of Jerusalem. At least two of the main perpetrators of that attack were children under the age of 12.

Jihadist soldier 'left free' to kill
Survivors, however, remain furious that even as he grew more radicalised, Hasan was left untroubled by military authorities. Despite warning classmates that Muslim-American troops might be obliged to kill comrades, and being spotted having email exchanges with Anwar al-Awlaki, the late Yemen-based al-Qaeda cleric, Hasan was promoted to Major and left free to carry out the worst-ever killing spree on a US military base.

The Historical Reality of the Muslim Conquests
Among the most authoritative books devoted to recounting the conquests are: Ibn Ishaq's (d. 767) Sira ("Life of Muhammad"), the oldest biography of Muhammad; Waqidi's (d. circa. 820) Maghazi ("Military Campaigns [of the Prophet]"); Baladhuri's (d. 892) Futuh al-Buldan ("Conquests of the Nations"); and Tabari's (d.923) multi-volume Tarikh al-Rusul wa al-Muluk, ("History of Prophets and Kings"), which is 40 volumes in the English translation. Taken together, these accounts (which are primarily based on older accounts—oral and written—tracing back to Muhammad and his successors) provide what was once, and in the Muslim world still is, a famous story: that Allah had perfected religion (Islam) for all humanity; that he commanded his final prophet (Muhammad) and community (Muslims) to spread Islam to the world; and that the latter was/is to accept it either willingly or unwillingly (jihad).

Stoning – the true horror
A document produced by Amnesty International entitled "How to stone someone to death". The document describes in step-by-step detail, as outlined in the Iranian penal code, exactly how to bury someone up to their waist — or chest if female — and throw stones at their head until they die.

Dude, if I can help you exercise your common sense here is a little exercise of United States History...

The socio-economic infrastructure of the United States is very strong...and the social welfare state is working fairly well where relatively speaking not many people are starving...

This is not the case in many places in the world... It just so happens that in many countries where socio-economic difficulties are high and territorial disputes are strong are the countries where the Muslim religions are the flavor of the day...both in culture and political ideology...

The Sikh terrorism is not at all associated with the Muslim religion...historically speaking per FBI records it has been as strong or stronger than than any Muslim associated terrorism...world wide.. Your using records for only close to half a year that likely are not fully updated from 2013...from the historical perspective of terrorism this is like flipping a coin and getting heads and suggesting heads always comes up because of one successful flip of heads...

The US doesn't have any wars on it's soil so we are relatively speaking a bunch of babies living in their diapers sucking on a pacifier as compared to the historical precedence of human conflicts.

When Hurricane Katrina came through...relatively speaking...no one could even figure out how to change the diaper when it was soiled with sh** of just a little relative disorder of what many countries face everyday because of lower socio-economic standards of living...

I hate to sound disrespectful but if one day you are forced to grow up and put your big boy pants on your point of view will likely be completely different as you might face what so many others face in this world that have to wear the big boy pants...

This has little to nothing to do with any religion...it is part of being a human animal...no different than what a Lion faces on the desert land...
