Does anybody else here have problems with crossing the road?

For my whole life I've always had a problem with crossing the road. Because when I'm walking I sometimes forget to look both ways when crossing the road (because I could be thinking of something else) and I almost cross the road without looking until my parents yank me back onto the pavement (sidewalk.) I'm not sure if I'll ever get better with roads but this problem has lasted pretty much all my life, there have been many times when I've almost walked onto the road without looking.

Is anyone else like this?

Yeh, my mum had to tell me whole the time to look both ways, I'm ok with crossing the road now but I often miss traffic lights when I'm in a new area, it amazes me I'm still alive.

I used to have that problem, I can't even count the many times I've nearly been ran over by a car:p
Especially when I learned how to ride my bike. I was pretty reckless.
The shocked face of one female driver is still burned into my mind^_-

But as I got older I developed an intense fear of traffic. So these days I'm extra careful wherever I go and I usually wait for the road to be completely void of cars before crossing.
Sometimes a car will stop for me (e.g. at a zebra crossing) and it really annoys me 'cause I need a clear road to cross...
But then they start gesturing etc. and getting pissed off so I just cross while my heart's beating super fast and I hold my breath until I reach the other side.

I don't tell many people this but i have a lot of anxiety about crossing the road and will only do it on my own if i HAVE to. If i can hold onto someone it lessens the anxiety but i am even feeling a little panicky just talking about crossing the road.

I do ok with small quiet streets.

Well I have crossed some major roads, and I must say I do sometimes walk when I'm not supposed to!! *oops* lol. I just run the rest of the way, but like, sometimes I'm not even sure when I should or shouldn't cross, even though the cars are on a red stoplight, I get confused. Ahh stress.

I don't have a problem looking both ways, but I get really anxious when crossing the road because I don't know how quickly a car will pass me and when is a good time to cross. I usually just wait until a car has passed.
Drivers often get annoyed by me though.
I hate when cars are coming at me from all directions.

I have no issues...I look both ways, then run across.Other than that, most of the time Im driving or I use a marked crosswalk whereby its the law here that drivers must stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and if a pedestrain gets hit at a crosswalk, the driver can be charged for negligence and reckless driving.

YES.

It is my mum's greatest fear that I will get run over when crossing the road.

at our local store there is a man with asperger's my mother said and when he walks there he won't cross the street until there are NO cars in sight.

when I went to a school they thought I depended on my mother too much and wanted me to start walking places. I eventually stopped 'cause I get lost in my head too easily and forget I'm walking. And the sun is too bad on my eyes so when I'm outside it looks like I'm stumbling around blind.

Sometimes. Sometimes I forget to look both ways.
Other times, I have issues when someone stops to let me cross (Do I go? Do you go? Ugh!).

I also have issues with walking in the middle of the road (sometimes with there being traffic)... heh.

Oh, gosh. I have super problems crossing the road, which is doubly problematic since I don't drive and am forever walking places.

I CANNOT cross the road in front of stopped cars (like at stop lights, or about to turn.) I imagine everybody staring at me and honking their horns. So I try to walk behind them. I walk way down the street and behind them and then beside them to wherever I'm going to, which is probably more awkward, because they're most likely thinking "Why did that chick just walk behind all those cars if she's going this way?"

One thing thats been able to help is my IPod because then I'm able to ignore everybody else, but that can be troublesome too especially if you walk after dark.

But I've surprisingly heard from a couple of non-Aspies who do this too so I suspect it's just some sort of social phobia.

Same here.

I hate when my friends start crossing, and I wasn't paying attention, and then I'm either still stuck where I was, or I'm running to catch up to them.

It's even worse if you're driving, because then you have other cars behind you who are going to be pissed if you just sit at an intersection all day waiting for 20 seconds of space between traffic :x That's probably the thing I hate most about driving.

I nearly got hit one time because I misjudged the time I had. It was stupid, I waited to make sure the cars weren't moving, then because of that I had so much less time because the cars took off like rockets at me as soon as I was walking across. I had to run and barely missed a car, got honked. So stupid, I should have just missed the chance to cross. It was a dumb impulse to go for it.

Now I'm ultra careful to the point where people think it's exaggerated.

I got hit by a car once, I was thinking about my computer, LOL XD. My back still sucks.
So yeah, I don't like crossing roads xD. I'm more cautious though, if I wasn't wearing my back pack my head would have slammed against the floor... I could have got brain damage or anything o.O.

Yeah, I'm not very good at figuring out a good time to cross, so I really avoid jaywalking.
