So I went on a second date with this guy, and while we were eating he laughed at me out of nowhere. He did it last time too, so I called him out on it. He said, "It's just when we're eating, you really concentrate on your food."

Yes, I look at my food. Much less scary than his eyes. But I thought I was glancing up enough! I guess I need to find a balance of eating, talking, looking up... pah.

Maybe I'll just permanently wear sunglasses. 8)

People laugh at stupid stuff I do all the time. Most of the time, they just think it's funny, and don't really mean anything by it. It took me forever to realize they weren't just making fun of me.

Don't worry about it. There will be odd little things about him that you find amusing, too, eventually. :)

Patricia

Yeah, sounds to me like he thought you were being adorable. It depends on way he laughed and his facial expression though.

If a girl said that to me, it would be bother me a lot. I would think she's laughing at me without being honest about it. I'd respond by saying "oops, sorry", and focus on her more for the rest of the meal, acting like nothing is wrong. Of course, I wouldn't show that it bothered me, but at the same time, I wouldn't call her again.

From what it sounds like, I don't think he was laughing in a bad way. He probably thought it was funny in a good way. :)

It could be some 'endearing' quirk he noticed.

And I think it is better to concentrate on your food, then not concentrating and making a mess of it.

Since he laughed, I think he thought it was cute.

Now, if he would've gasped in horror....

I'll bet he was so nervous that he just said all the wrong stuff. I do that too, I usually change the topic to pillows and water balloons for no reason, he was either looking too high or too low, sounds pretty absent minded to me, you can forgive him if you want.

He probably thought it was cute.
When someone laughs and pokes fun of you (to you, not like if they're doing it behind your back) it's usually a good sign.. a friendly banter kind of thing. You could make a comment about looking for tarantulas in your food or something (so it was obviously a joke.. remember to smile!) .. or if you're feeling really brave, mention that you're not great with new social situations..
But the general accepted thing to do if someone pokes fun of something you do is to poke fun of something they do or make a joke about what you do. That's what banter is. :D

I agree with everyone else here--he probably just thought it was funny. And just look at it this way: even in the unlikely case he seriously thinks less of you because of how much you look at your food, it's much better you would be alerted to his judgmental side through something so silly. In any case, it's not your problem that he laughed.

I believe you all may be right. It's just embarrassing when he points out my 'oddities'...

He seems to accept them though, as he's still interested. He must be desperate. :P

Haha, don't worry about it.

If he takes a liking to you, then he'll find that behaviour cute anyway.

Speaking as an NT guy who went on a few "dates" with my current aspie girlfriend before we got together, I very rapidly noticed that she'd focus on something other than me a lot of the time and I also made a joke and a laugh about it.

It's not insensitive and it's certainly nothing to worry about, if you had a second date then it probably means it didn't put him off.
