So it's not like I've never seen fireflies before, but now I live amongst them and they are starting to piss me off. At night it's not as bad, but it tilts me out real bad when I see them like in the evening when it's still light out. I'll see 6 or 7 of them within a matter of seconds, these little lights when there already is light, and I know what it is but every time without fail there's that split second where I feel like I'm going crazy.

They f**k with me and I don't like it.

Anybody? Fireflies?

You are so lucky, I've never even seen a firefly. But yeah, I guess if they are anything like laser pointers, that would be extremely annoying.

They're great but the eye thing is annoying I can take some pictures of some and post if you want.

My brothers always drag me out to help them catch them due to I can see very well in the dark

You don't have to post pics, I can find some on the internet, thanks. I'm just interested in biolumination mostly. I wonder if you could make a viable light source if you could harness these reactions.

i've seen them in the country. hurricane katrina, pitch black, stuck in vacherie, la., grandma in the hot sauna/house(couldn't open the windows). mum was nearly dying from the heat so dad took her out too cool off in the car. my sister and i were supposed to watch grandma but...we didn't care. we grabbed a flashlight and ran outside. above us a million stars twinkled. never seen so many stars before. i stepped on a huge rock and got part of it caught in my foot. in my peripheral vision i saw something blinking. i turned around and what's this? flying lights? we chased after them and caught some. thanks fireflies. made my night.

Here’s a very interesting mystery that I haven’t been able to explain regarding fireflies and I would appreciate any explanation anyone may have about it. About ten years ago I used to live in Pasadena, California and there were fireflies everywhere. However ever since then I haven’t seen a single firefly either in or near Pasadena where I now live. No that isn’t the mystery. The mystery is that when I mention the fireflies to people nobody but nobody, not even my family who was there with me that year remembers seeing them and they give me this strange look when I insist that there were fireflies that year. It’s like I somehow jumped into this parallel universe where some things are just slightly different.
