It's not really regarding video game but more about the music (if any of you ever listen to it). Do you find yourself singing along to the same repetitive little video game tune, even making up lyrics that make no sense or little of it just so it goes along the music? :o

Their are a few that I quite like, one that was a childhood favirout and I downloaded was the music from Banjo Kazooie (Gruntilda's Lair) I liked the tune which kind of sounds a bit like teddy bear picnic and the music changes into being done by different instruments to reflect the different individual levels. Actualy I liked a lot ofa the music from that game funny as the main characters are both named after instuments.

I am a sucker for the main tune for the Halo games. Another great is that Kingdom Hearts has some good ones especialy the opening of KH2 with the song sanctuary, that also had another song when done backwards which is called He was Ansem.

There is also some great songs of Nintendo that have been placed in the Smash Bros game, and the intro to Brawl is cool too.

I mostly like the musics of the Final Fantasy games composed by Nobuo Uematsu like this one:

thre is also the symphonic version:

I also like the musics of Crono Trigger, WarCraft II and WarCRaft III (the night elves) and some others...

I'll tell you something silly I did. When I was about 10-11-12ish, I was very much into the Donkey Kong Country Games. I loved them played them all day long, drew the characters... and I also really loved the background music in these games. I thought it was that much more sophisticated than that other great Nintendo 2D platform game series, Super Mario. There was this code insert you could access at the 'choose your game' screen, and one of the codes was MUSIC. This granted the player access to all the background music in the game, and the BGMs were listed by their names... like 'Lakeside Limbo' for the lake levels, and 'Boss Boogie' for the end-of-world boss tune. And I could just play those tunes for half an hour without getting bored of them, cycling through them all. Of course, I'd hum along when my cousin would be playing; I particularly liked the mountain level music...

(Whaddya know, I found it on the YouTube!

The silly part really starts here: I actually started writing lyrics to the different level tunes (in Dutch, mind you, not in English), that were sung by the enemies who appeared in those particular levels. I also did this for the intro tunes of the game, but to have the lyrics be sung by the Kong family.

I used to HATE video game music, I'd always play portable games with the sound off (from Atari Lynx to PSP)

But once I went DD on console games, WOW!! They sound incredible.

As for my favorite VG music, I love the classic orchestral music of a FF or COD game, but THIS has to be the best:

The limited edition of BlazBlue, which retails for the same price as just a standalone game, comes with 2 cds of music. I would recommend that since the music overall I think is catchy, and there are a few remixes on it that are also interesting.

I actually meant music without lyrics (hence, no "songs"). The Banjo-Kazooie (Tooie :p) music is a good example, played em both (thank god for emus). Most of the FFs are good too. =) Or the boss music of those. Ah, now Donkey Kong, been a while since i actually played that -.- I sadly only got to play DK land 1 &2 =( I should dl emus and play the countries for old time's sake. ;p

This was playing on Galaxy News Radio while I was raiding a Raider compound with my super-mutant friend Fawkes. :)

The best music was from the Mega Man series on the NES.

The 2008 Alone in the Dark game wasn't great but Olivier DeRiviere's score was fantastic. The same could be said for Obscure II (same guy did the score lol):

You can also download it for free from the composer's web site:
http://www.olivierderiviere.com/od/flash/

The American McGee's Alice soundtrack is lovely:

F.E.A.R. (the opening music!)

Others I like:
Clock Tower 3
The Darkness
Diablo
Duke Nukem 3D
Max Payne 2
MDK
Quest for Glory V
Shadow of the Collosus
Silent Hill series (of course)
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (for Chiasm's "Isolated" and Tiamat's "Cain")
Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the intro music for Thief: The Dark Project

And Thief: The Metal Age:

Video game music has come quite a ways from the blips and beeps of the first generation. Just look at Final Fantasy. Not only do they have concert-worthy orchestras that record the in-game music, the guy in charge of the game music, Nobuo Uematsu, has his own metal band (named, appropriately, The Black Mages) that does rock-style covers of the game music LIVE in concert and on CD! I have their entire first album and half of their second on iTunes. Then you have The World Ends With You, another Square Enix creation. When playing a handheld RPG you'd expect the music to be a repetitive loop of crappy instrumental music, but this game has ACTUAL SONGS for their battle music, songs that would put some of the hip-hop, rap, electronica, and alt. rock artists in America to shame. They actually sell the game soundtrack on iTunes. Then there's Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4, in which the game comes with both the game disc and a separate soundtrack CD for the music junkies. Trust me, the days of the Mario Theme are over. Video game music has come far since its arcade precursors.

(Just for the record, I have the soundtracks for both TWEWY and Persona 4 on my iPod. Matter of fact, I'm listening to a song from TWEWY as i type this.)

The instrumental music in the game Braid is really good, so good that I downloaded all the soundtracks.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so
