How do you pronounce Asperger's?

Well, that would seem to be the definitive. I'd have to assume that someone who knew the man would know how to pronounce his name without offending him (and even I am offended by the pronunciation ASS burgers).

So to clarify - Oz-pare-gare... Aahs. Pair. Gair. Correct?

Further question. On which syllable is the accent placed?

Could we send a press release on this to all major news organizations and television network sitcom writers?

I still have no idea how to pronounce it. Psychiatrists school my mother they all pronounce it differently.

The g in guitar explanation isn't helping me any either, I guess I would have to hear it used correctly.

I pronounce it Asperjers, because when I first realised my friend had it, I said Aspergers, and he instantly corrected me before I could make a crappy pun or something

I put "G as in George" but I actually pronounce it both ways. I'd say I pronounce the G as in George more aften than G as in Guitar though.

Correct! That would be the german pronounciation. Probably a bit too acenty to be spoken by most of us without sounding like a freak. The accent would be on the first syllable, I believe.

When I was introduced to it, I heard "ass-burgers". That immediately brought on the following mental image:

I say asperjers...because, well....i don't want anyone to associate it with 'ass'-burgers
though, aahs-pair-gair makes sense, i could get used to saying it

So long as you spell it right, it probably doesn't matter.

I've always emphasised the P even though being Germanic, it wouldn't have been.

AsP Bugers

sound at least a bit more edible than Ass Burgers, although in Australia, we'd have to mispronounce it as Arse Burgers to get the same effect here as they do in the US.
