When I walk down a sidewalk and the only other person in sight is a person who I don't know walking in front of me, I always feel like I'm doing something wrong. It seems like they're going to just turn around and tell me to stop following them or something. I know it's sort of an irrational fear, but it always happens. I just end up taking different routes to places if I end up 'following' someone, but its always made me uncomfortable.

Does anyone else get like this?

No. I would just tell them if they accused me of following them "Oh stop being so paranoid. Just because someone is going the same direction you're going doesn't mean they're following you. I suppose you pull people over when you think they're following you. Just stop walking then if you think someone is following you and see if that person keeps walking."

Stupid people I hate but luckily I walk fast so I am always passing people.

Haha, this happened to me a few days ago. Someone was walking in front of me and we were walking the same way for ages. I think they turned around and gave me a look at one time.
I don't think I'm following them I just think it's funny if they think I am.

yeah, I feel this way to. in my case this kind of relates to when I'm coming home and I go to the apartment mailbox area to get my mail and someone is already there, I just get on going to my apartment. maybe that's not related, but I saw this topic and knew I had to reply.

cheers,

J.

I've been accused of this by my family but never from strangers. If I stranger turned around and told me to stop following them, I'd simply say "Don't flatter yourself, sweetie..." in a condescending tone of voice.

never felt like this. i like playing chicken with oncoming traffic though. some people never move out of the way and when two of them walk towards each other they always end up colliding. i fall into the category of aggressive pedestrian

Yup, I get that.

As far as people walking toward me, I decided Im not gonna bother moving....either they are going to walk into me, or they are going to move to the side.

Yes, I get that way both walking and driving. If it's possible and doesn't take me too far out of my way, I'll sometimes change to a different route. Most of the time, though, I just keep going in whatever direction I was going in.

However, there was one time where I was walking down the street in the same direction as the person in front of me when he turned around and started going ballistic. He threatened me, saying he would beat me up and kill me if I didn't stop following him. Seeing as how it was late at night and there was no one around, not to mention that he was bigger and more muscular than me, I very quickly crossed the street and started walking the other way. I glanced back periodically to make sure he wasn't following me or had pulled a gun.

I hate walking behind people.

If I'm going quicker than them I'll speed up to overtake and open up a decent sized gap. Alternatively if we're going at a similar pace I'll invent an excuse to stop, such as re-tying my shoe laces or I'll pretend to check my phone, anything to put some distance between us so I'm not walking too close.

If ya've got a telescoping baton to defend yourself against oncoming cars, that's being an aggressive pedestrian!

i be walking along, no one in front of me, then someone would step out and be heading the same way
so id follow, and follow and follow
made a lot of people run, i used to think it was funny
then one time one person decided to turn around and chase me,lol
i can laugh now, but i havnt done it since
learnt my lesson havnt done it since
lol

It's not following if you are going somewhere and the person happens to be heading the same direction you're heading. It's following if you are walking after them just to see where they are going.

yeah, but it always feels like they think I'm following them or something. Maybe I'm just misinterpreting something about situations like that
