I remember growing up, our family would occasionally crack open the pits of peaches and eat almond-like nut inside. Later, I heard that it contains cyanide or some poison, though I remember it vaguely tasted like Dr. Pepper but more bitter. Anyone know if it's safe to eat these regularly (but not more than 1 or 2 a day)?

the pit does contain cyanogenetic glycosides which when they are digested produce
cyanide as a byproduct , but you would have to eat alot of pits to get sick.
Latril and the vitimin B17 are produced with cyanogenetic glycosides
