Right now, the Brazilian embassy has been subjected to attacks with gases and a sonic weapon because the Honduran president is there. In 1980, when some rebel supporters holed up in the Spanish embassy in Guatemala, the army there burned it to the ground... They got away with it and a couple of years later a Christian fundamentalist took control and started a large massacre/forced conversion programme in the highlands.

So far, the Honduran army has learned that they can get away with this attack on an embassy. Will they go as far as the Guatemalans did, knowing that the Guatemalans got away with it?

don't know but it's a thin wire they're treading - from what i've heard the hondurans are ready to tear this particular junta a new one
