Who thinks there is nothing like being the lowest sound in orchestra, or jazz band, or whatever group you play in?

Both drummers, and guitar gods, seem to get more attention, than do
bass players.

Bass players are crucial though- James Jameson practically created
the motown sound with his distinctive bass playing back when gordy founded
the company in the early sixties.

The bass player of Le Chic ( I forget his name) was awesome.

whats interesting is the bass lines can be used to medley two songs.
Micheal Jackson's "Billie Jean" has the exact same bass line as Steely Dan's
"Do it Again"- and theyre in the same key. So two groups of studio mucisns in
the eighties both put medleys of the two songs on record- which competed
with each other for airplay as minor hits.

The now common place practice of deejays doing mashups was pioneered
by Grandmaster Flash when he did "steel wheels"- basically a mashup
of "good times" by Le Chic, and Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust"

I'm a bass player in a rock and roll band called Tethys Ocean. My favorite "real" bass players are Noel Redding, Geddy Lee, Phil Lesh, Chris Squire, John Paul Jones, and John Entwhistle

Darockstop, you and I would get along greatly. The bass zone in the tunes draw me in, and bass is my case!

The bass guitar has always interested me much more than guitar. I listen to the bass end, and I am very drawn to really melodic basslines.

Favorite players of mine are: Paul McCartney, Geddy Lee, John Entwistle, Duff McKagan (stuff on Appetite... is worthy of bassgazms for the hardcore low-lives!), Jack Bruce has some cool stuff as well. Melodic bass players are favorites of mine because they show a certain aspect of uniqueness that the best guitarists have, and the fact that they have a great relationship with their instrument type and aren't afraid to show their chops, actually doing something with the bass that catches your soul. In fact, some of the best bassists seem to have more soul and feeling than some guitarists.

One thing I also like about the melodic players is how they can make their lines interweave though the lead riffs, two different melodies but at the same time blend together well.
