Are lonely people shunned by society?
I do indeed believe that lonely people are ostracized. Although people do not intend to do it, loneliness can sometimes signify a few things:
1) The person would prefer to be alone instead of with a group
2) The person is in a bad mood and wants alone time
3) The person is shy, and is not worth trying to get to talk
To other people, to be lonely is to signify that you aren't even attempting to be with another for whatever reason. Others are willing to try and bring these people into their groups, but if they return after the first time, it could send out an unintended rejection signal to the inviter.
If a person doesn't like being lonely, they should be trying to work towards a point where they can overcome it. If they do... well, then I see no problem.
