I interviewed for a position in Rapid City, SD, and I should get an answer either way next week.

If I get the position, what should I expect? What is the climate like in the Rapid City area, what stuff is there to do there (besides Mt. Rushmore)?

If anyone knows anything, that would be great.

Hi Tim. I have mostly visited during the summer. My one visit during the winter did not surprise me, nor will it surprise you. It was cold! during the summer, however, it is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. I have traveled extensively within the US. The weather is notoriously variable, often with very short notice! I think a record was set near there for the quickest change in temperature. The drought has made the area less green than when I first visited, but the vegetation is still lush and extremely varied. Be sure to visit Spearfish Canyon. The Spearfish creek is beautiful. If you have ever seen "Dances with Wolves," you have seen part of Spearfish Canyon. The winter camp scene for the Lakota was filmed there.

Be sure to visit some of the caves in the area! Well worth it!

I envy you. Enjoy!

In the meantime, I am applying for other jobs in case this one doesn't work out.

Update: I didn't get the job in Rapid City.

Meanwhile, I am still waiting to hear from positions in Houston, Boston, and San Francisco.

Oooh, lucky, I hear South Dakota is amazing! If you like the outdoors, that is.

You apparently didn't see his last post. He did not get the South Dakota job. It is amazing, at least the Black Hills (around Rapid City.) Well worth a visit in the summer.

@Tim: Have you been to any of the other cities you listed? I can tell you what I thought of San Francisco.

I've been to San Francisco before. Very nice city, but very expensive.
