I get PMS symptoms sometimes a week, even a week and a half once before my period comes, and my PMS symptoms (cramping, really bad mood swings, etc) are way worse then my period (basically just heavy bleeding). Does anybody else get really long PMS symptoms?
Oh, I should mention that sometimes my PMS is at a regular time, only about half the time it's a week/week and a half.

7 to 10 days prior is pretty standard for me to get a bit grouchy, testy and food cravings for salty/ sweet. No big deal though really. I just don't make demands on myself. I let myself out of it emotionally, not making big decisions when I feel sleepy and grumpy. I let myself just do what I need to do and it lessens the intensity of any difficult symptoms. Also changing to whole foods diet and cutting dairy, wheat and fake sweetners helped my overall cycle.

Oh good I'm glad you brought this up b/c I didn't know if it was normal or not.

I get it 2 weeks prior to it. Whenever I gripe about it, I have people ask me how that can possibly be and then have symptoms regarding my period.

I guess for me it's almost like having the flue for a long time. Very annoying depending on how well I try and take care of myself regarding diet and exercise. I'm very sensative to it so I have to stay away from salty and sugary foods.

Sometimes my back hurts a bit a day before my period starts, and then I get cramps the first day or two and get really sleepy. I don't think that I really have any mood symptoms though.

I get no symptoms at all. My periods are barely noticeable, actually. I'm a real wuss when it comes to physical discomfort, so I will count my blessings.

my breasts start to fill out and become sore about a week before, the day before I stop eating and most of the time I scream at my poor husband.

Used to be 4 or 5 days before for me, but lately it has extended to up to 10 days before , so I spend half my month ranting and raging and generally suffering appalling moods.

Really makes one resent being a female.

About a week before my period starts.
My breasts become a cup size larger and they become sore and tender. The things that normally irritate me will irritate me even more. I get frequent headaches and I will cry easily.

But no matter what, I never, ever yell at anyone. I always make sure to be extra logical and analytical during my PMS time, so that I keep my mood swings under control.
(Note: this does not mean I am "bottling my emotions up." I do find calmer and more appropriate ways to express and relieve myself of negative emotions, such as listening to music, or typing a blog and then never posting it. :D )

My symptoms start about two weeks in advance when the zits decide to start, too. :/ Horrible.

My mood swings really weird out my boyfriend. I don't get angry, but back and forth happy sad happy sad.

I think it's funny that he things it's a bad thing for himself, that he has to put up with these mood swings. What about me? Duh.

I get pms (or PMDD) 2 weeks before my period, sometimes even earlier. It starts with having a short temper. People annoy me more. Each week leading to my period it gets worse. Meltdowns or crying often happen. Then there are physical symptoms like sore breasts, leg pain, back pain, ear aches (which is weird), pimples, cramps, etc.
I went on medication to get rid of the symptoms which worked but something happened which made me think the pills weren't working. Or perhaps they made me more sensitive to strobe lights than I was before?
I'm also blessed (sarcasm) with primary dysmenorrhea which is sever period pain, which no one believes me about. I always pop 2 strong codeine tablets as soon as I know I have started my period before the pain hits.

cry, cry, cry- and bad temper, food cravings. breast pain, cry a little bit more.
i also sometimes get period pain before hand too- just to really prolong things. my body temprature drops too.
it really cranks up some of my a.s- i get more confused and shut-down-ish, the outside world is even harder to deal with; i want to scream, and stab people. im so nice be near.

on the up side, i did find that taking udo's oil
http://www.udoschoice.co.uk/

made ALL of my symptoms go away, made my periods far far lighter, and shorter (3 days, down from 7!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !!). plus, i had pain so severe it was thought i had endometriosis (turns out i dont), and i had NO CRAMPS AT ALL. genius... its a blend of omega oils- evening primrose, hemp etc. you put a spoonful in a smoothie.

annoyingly, since im really sensative to smell and taste, i cant take it any more; but ive never heard anyone else having this, so its just my freakishness. some people even like the taste. ive not found a substitute yet- the viridian one does nothing.

anyway, i really do urge anyone with pmt to give it a try- its about £10 a bottle, so its not prohibitivly expensive. there are capsules, too, but they are gelatin. its also good for skin and hair, too. win win, really.

About a week beforehand.

And it sucks. I feel permanently really stressed, unless I'm lying in a dark room listening to Rachmaninov. Even someone asking if I'd like something is a horrible invasion that I have to deal with and I want them to go away.

And I have the rage of a whole pack of wolves in me...

The emotional and mental symptoms start to really shine through 48 hours beforehand. Anger, suicidality, the lot. Of course I don't actually know it's PMS when I'm experiencing PMS, not until I see that familiar red splotch on my pantyliner . "Oh, so THAT'S why I've been so insane lately!! !"

My PMS symptoms are so bad I can't stand it. :( They seem to start as early as two weeks before my period and I get pain and tenderness in and around my nipples and my breasts feel like two bags of wet sand. I get tired and fatigued and often spend most of the day napping. My mood swings and meltdowns get really bad, or maybe worse than usual. But the worst part is the weight gain. These past 2 weeks I gained at least 14 pounds! And I had been working extra hard to lose weight! My period started yesterday after one of the most putrid weeks of my life. :x I was so miserable, frustrated and depressed over my weight gain that I took a bunch of laxatives. They were pretty weak pills though, so I wasn't constantly in and out of the bathroom, which made me rather disappointed. Then I got into an argument about it over the phone with my mother who instead of acting really concerned tried giving me dieting advice. Now I feel my relationship with the most important person in my life has been strained and I feel dirty and ashamed of myself. :(
Anyway, I've digressed. I'm going to see my gynecologist today, but I'm worried all she'll do is put me on pills that will have really bad or life-threatening side effects. It's happened before...
