Anything by Tolkien.
Anything by Neil Gaiman (do graphic novels count?).
Anything by Storm Constantine, but especially Hermetech and Burying the Shadow.
The Space Trilogy by C. S. Lewis.
Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo.
The His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.
Always Coming Home by Ursula LeGuin.
The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac.
Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell.
Perfume by Patrick Susskind.
Waxwings and Surveillance by Jonathan Raban.
Anything in the Frank Corso series by G. M. Ford.
Dancers at the End of Time by Michael Moorcock.
The Book of Dave by Will Self.
Millennium by John Varley.
Last and First Men by Olaf Stapledon.
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. (Did someone mention Oryx and Crake? I liked that too, but I couldn't work out why it got such crap reviews.)

To be honest, most of what I read is non-fiction, depending on what I'm into at the time, but those are some consistent fiction favorites.

I read a lot of fiction, but the last book I read that was pure pleasure was actually a young adult book. His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. I had never even heard of it until the movie came out.

I've never read Poisonwood Bible but I've been told it's very good. Have you read the 2 books after Wicked-Son of a Witch and A Lion Among Men?

Haze!
Oh yes! I really liked these as well. I'm addicted to Haze, but am stopping myself from reading it again before the holidays. I've read the other ones (The Blue Bottle Mystery, Of Mice and Aliens, etc.) but didn't find them as interesting or well-written.

Here are my other favorites:
Fiction
A Tale of Two Cities by C. Dickens
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Far, Far Away from Anywhere Else by Ursula K. LeGuin (read this way too many times)
Animal Farm by George Orwell
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee (also reread this one)
Lord Of The Flies by William Golding
Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
Alice In Wonderland was my favorite childhood book.
I've really enjoyed the Harry Potter Series, too.

Nonfiction
This Is Your Brain on Music by Daniel J. Levitin
The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould
A Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome by Tony Attwood

Frankenstein
The Time Machine
Brave New World
Paradise Lost
The Invisible Man

The Odyssey (especially the scene when the beggar strings up the bow and shoots an arrow through 12 axe heads) lol REVENGE!! ! jka

Unfortunately and apparently as evinced by my short answers, I am not an avid reader; however, once in a while I will pick up a book to read.

How To Get Rich by Felix Dennis

If you have any interest in business whatsoever, you need to read that book. It will either inspire you or scare you off (of getting rich).
