I've been noticing lately that I have a problem. It goes something like this:

Other Person: "Hi, how are you?"
Me: "How Are you? Good." (Me saying how I am, AFTER asking how the other person is)

Does this happen to you? Is it normal around here? I feel like I am all alone on this and that people probably think I am an idiot.

:wall:

I also do this sometimes, especially when I'm tired or preoccupied. Just this morning,, a co-worker said, "Good morning," to me, and I responded by saying, "I'm okay, how are you?"
She had just said Good Morning, but I responded as if she had also said, "How are you?," and she hadn't said that yet.
This past summer, I was at the airport, and when I went to a kiosk to get my boarding pass, the employee who gave me my boarding pass told me, "Have a good flight."
I responded by saying, "You, too."
I can think of plenty of other instances, but I think people get the point.

That is funny. :)

No worries, I do even worse. When it happens, I just laugh at myself and move along.

That's how I am. Get preoccupied and who knows what I'll say!

Someone will say to me: 'Hi, how's it going?
My reply: "Hi"
Saying 'Hi, yeah I'm good' is just too many words to get out.

Although the funniest reply I said was over the phone.

Girl answers: "Hello"
Me: "Is that Marcus?"
Girl: "No, it's Sarah.

Haha, oops.

I fall into this too but I tend to use commonly used words.

my greetings often include:
"hey (really fast)", "whats up", "good, good" or "hows it goin"
I rarely say anything else to greet people.

I catch it all the time and sometimes I even have people doing my signature "hey" back, jokingly.

I do this in speech all the time, some phrases repeat themselves every hour.

I do that.

Me: "Hello."

Other person: "Hello."

Me: "Hello."

I also often have to ask my students if I've asked how they are, because I forget where I am in the script. It's nice for children to have something to laugh at*. :)

*For the record, they don't laugh maliciously, and I find it just as amusing as they do. My students are nice children.

I once met a family friends wife and it went something like this:

Woman: "Nice to meet you"

Me:"Oh, good seeing you"

Kinda threw off the rest of the conversation lol

I'm amazed how often I give odd responses because a lot of my responses are automatic, so they don't always match the situation.

Yeah, I do that. When I'm following the usual script and the other person isn't, it can be... amusing.

I tend to say "Mornin'" to everyone. No matter what time of day or night it is. And I quite often get a "Um... it's 3 in the afternoon." followed by me saying "Yeah, it's daylight out, that means it's morning because I should be sleeping."

Also, I always avoid saying "Good" morning because to me, if it's morning, it's automatically bad because I'm not in bed.

Lemme take a wild guess... you're a night owl? :D

I wonder how often NTs mess up their lines in social scripts. As often as us? Less often? Almost never?
