To me, your pronunciation sounds worse. I don't mind the proper pronunciation. Just emphasize the "p" as in As-Per-ger's.

True.. it's either ass burgers or ass purgers, we can't win. D:

I just go with Autistic, it saves time.

I just tell people that I'm autistic. That way, I don't have to listen to them make an arse of themselves.

[insert violently annoyed sound here]! !!

It's an Austrian name! As-perg-er, not ass-purger! There's no purging going on! And seriously, who would pronounce it "ass burger"? A B has a voice, a P does not. That's not hard.

Anyway, the J pronunciation makes me want to rip someone's throat out.

Jive me a break here, I just want to jet a hamburjer.

I'd rather hear someone say "Ass Burgers" than "Ass Purgers". The latter just sounds too gross.

I've only heard one person pronounce it, and she got it right.

It doesn't bother me. I don't know how to pronounce every word in existence; why should I expect others to?

It annoys me most when Aspies and Asperger's Syndrome specialists pronounce it incorrectly. I speak German, so I know how to pronounce it properly, but I've decided to just make it easier for everybody, soi I now pronounce it 'autism'.

Obviously the correct pronunciation is with a "G" sound.

"G" - like in "George".

Me and my sister always call each other Ass Burgers. It's just funnier that way. :)

A 'p' and a 'b' sound almost identical in the word Asperger, so unless you specifically emphasize the 'P', it'll sound like Ass Burger to people who've never heard of Aspergers before because their mind hears a new word and tries to make sense of it... Since they know the words Ass & Burger, their mind concludes that you must have said Ass Burger. When they ask what that tastes like, and you say "no, AsPerger with a 'P' not a 'B'" then they start hearing it correctly, even though you're still pronouncing it the same way.

Well....Yes I get annoyed when people say "Asper-jers" (g for george sound) or asper-jes (the je, from the french)
I think its AS-perg-ers (rhyming with burgers)
i dont even mind ass burgers!
But when people try and make it cound like some posh friench word.....meaning asparagus!, well that annoys me
Also. the asperges is the prayer that a priest says as they flick holy water from (an asparagus shaped) metal rod.

But Asperger was Austrian!! So his name would have sounded more german than french!!

I reckon!

But what do I know?
