I personally think that "ass burgers" is more annoying.

They say (Ah)sp-er-Jers in Britain, which is closer to where Hans Asperger lived, and even though I might sound pretentious pronouncing it that way because I'm American, I would still say it sounds better than Ass Burgers.

I believe the last time this came up it was determined that persons who actually knew and worked with Hans pronounced his name Ahhs-Pair-Gair.

Unfortunately this is extremely awkward for my American mouth. :eew: , although I much prefer it to Assburgers.

To me, your pronunciation sounds worse. I don't mind the proper pronunciation. Just emphasize the "p" as in As-Per-ger's.

I'd rather pronounce it J. When I hear it pronouced "assburgers" it makes me want to giggle, for obvious reasons.

I prefer to pronounce it with a "g", I'm not really used to pronouncing it with a "j", although I don't mind when people pronounce it like that.

Nope.

There are enough things that push my buttons, I am happy to let this one go.

Finally I've understand all that joke about Asperger name. Is really so difficult learn a correct pronounce? Asperger was from Austria, in Austria they talk in the same way as in german. The right pronounce should be:

Ass (like ass) - per - (like per-fect) - ge - (like ge-t) - r

I pronounce it with the J sound cos it sounds better that way. Less like burgers and asparagus, etc.

In Australia we dont have your 'ass-burgers' problem cos we dont say ass we say arse. Unless we're talking about donkeys but who the hell does that?

I've always pronounced Asperger's using a soft G, which follows the rules of the language when used before the e, i and y in most words. But I become very irritated when people pronounce it with the hard g, like in get, for the same reason that Nightsun pointed out.
