Hi everybody. I've been reading this forum for a few months now and decided to join. I'm not diagnosed, and my therapist says "you don't need another label because you're high functioning."
Even so, the stories on these forums seem pretty familiar and have helped me understand a lot about myself and other people.
So thanks for being you.
Quick bio: I was married for a few years but have been single for a little over a year. I'm bisexual, leaning toward gay. I work full time and live with a roommate. Friends....eh...I have a few but I'm not really close with too many people.

For my part, I'm a gay-aspie (gaspie!) diagnosed later in life. Although I'm "high-functioning" I have found the "label" to be valuable.

I agree with visagrunt that the label can be valuable. I think it can sometimes help explaining "weird" things about yourself to others, provided these others will understand about ASD.

Yeah, that's often difficult! It's OK for anybody else to offer any 'explanation' for their actions/ problems but for us to say, 'it's because of AS', then AS has to be explained! Nobody has to explain themselves to me! Hypocrisy rules. (Rant, rave, gibber!)

Welcome to WP!
If you're really high-functioning, your therapist is probably right. A self-diagnosis is probably all you would need to help put everything in your life into perspective. When I first found out about AS, I was also interested in getting a diagnosis, but eventually have come to the conclusion that self-diagnosis was sufficient for what I needed in my life.
I'm also bisexual with a fairly heavy preference towards gay these days, but combined with AS... well we'll see how that goes, heh.
