Welcome to the topic about my latest interest, IMDb's list of the 250 greatest movies ever. Here's a link so you can see them:
http://www.imdb.com/chart/top
I'm trying to see all of these movies eventually. I'm up to 42 right now; you can see them if you look at my profile. So what are your favorite movies on the list? Which deserve to be higher/lower? What should be on the list that isn't or shouldn't be on the list that is? And most importantly, which one should I watch next?

My favourite movie of all time is no longer on the top 250: The Lion in Winter (1968)

:(

Only problem with the list is that it is heavily weighted towards newer releases. I much prefer lists like the AFI top 100, which canvass a much broader period without the 'Peoples' Choice Award' domination.

Star Trek doesn't deserve to be on the Top 250. At all. Its very presence there is proof that civilization is in a state of intellectual decline.

The main problem with the IMDB top 250 is that any idiot can vote movies highly and eventually get it on there. There are a lot of good movies on there but as above has said, it's proof that more and more tasteless people are making their mark on the internet.

Ghostbusters is conspicuously absent from the list. I would also include the Matthew Broderick films (Wargames, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Project X, Family Business et al.)

I am shocked that Rain Man isn't on the list and that A Clockwork Orange and The Shining were rated higher than 2001 and Full Metal Jacket 8O .

All of my favourite movies appear to be on that list. There's a few movies I thought would be on there but aren't, like some Steven Spielberg and Disney-Pixar films (Jurrasic Park and Shrek namely, well I can't see them there).

Jurassic Park and Shrek (which is most definitely not a Disney/Pixar movie) are missing from the list even though both have high ratings on the site. I agree that Star Trek doesn't deserve to be on the list. I haven't seen A Clockwork Orange or The Shining yet, but I agree that Full Metal Jacket (which I saw yesterday) was very good. However, I thought 2001 was a little slow and I got a bit bored from that 15 minute psychedelic light show towards the end. Overall I like the list and I've liked over 90% of the movies I've watched on it, so I'm gonna keep going. Today will make number 50!

170/250, not bad :D there are a few films that don't belong there though.

While there are some movies on there that I don't like, that doesn't mean they don't belong. It's a bit faulty to assume that because you don't like a movie means it isn't good. This list is actually a pretty good representation of a combination of critically acclaimed and popular movies. It's not like it has Rob Schneider or Meet the Spartan type movies on it, now is it?
