I never had much of a bully problem, I basically just threw their insults back at them in a witty fashion. If you fly off the handle then you're just playing into their hands. Yes, it is possible to solve a bully problem without looking like a short-fused maniac. Sure, I was never very popular, but at least the would-be bullies left me very well alone. 8)

I'm hardly short-fused, after enduring years and years of bullying before fighting back. And yes, it might be better to fight back with wit and an occasional sharp comment, but that works better in theory than in real life. A lot of these bullies never stop to listen to you, and only rarely is the situation such that wit is practical. It's certainly better with a non-violent response, if possible, but after years of taking the sh**, you get fed up.

If you never had (much of) a bully problem, good for you. But don't be judgemental on the rest of us, please.

Complain to someone you trust at the school, someone on staff, the next time the students or the teacher does this to you. If the students are going whining, no reason you shouldn't too. But hold off on the violent retorts 'cause then it'll just get you into trouble and not them unfortunately, which is the mysterious irony of school. :?

I don't recommend "beating the crap outta the students" either because you could very well find yourself in trouble with the school instead of just the students and the teacher. It might be a viable option later on, especially if students are physically threatening or assaulting you. But for now, I wouldn't recommend it.

Try to find a good school mediator who can convince that teacher to protect your interests as well and be more willing to see that there's always two sides to a story. Maybe you can talk to your mom about this and she can find an advocate for you.

Andrew, I agree that what you said was out of line. Whether or not people ARE punsihed for behaving as you did, they SHOULD be. You're pushing buttons just as much as having buttons pushed from what you said, and people will often slant the situation to show themsleves in a better light, so for all I know, you were even more antagonistic than you said you were.

I agree. Violence should be way down on your options list.

My problem at school was that I thought my parents knew about the bullying. And I thought the teachers knew. Only several decades later did it dawn on me that they couldn't have. Actually, the first one to explain it clearly to me was the specialist who diagnosed me.

I wasn't judging you and I didn't call you short-fused. I just said you would look short-fused which is probably true.

Well, yes, I probably looked like a maniac. But he left me alone after the incident, and that's what counts.
