Name for the First Decade of the 21st Century?

The first decade of the 21st century is coming to a close. That being said, what do you suppose should be the name for this decade? I know the first decade of the 20th century was called the Naughties, and there is speculation that this passing decade will be called the Aughties or something like that. Right now I hear many people simply calling it the 2000s.

I also read a TIME article online declaring this possibly the worst decade in post-WWII American history, what with 9/11 and the financial meltdowns and whatnot. Are you feeling optimistic about the 2010s (or the "Teens", as they will probably be called)?

I always say "the zeros" it has a nice sound to it. and it was a sh***y decade too so it kinda fits.

The Worst Years of My (and a lot of peoples') Life!

Naming decades is so 20th-Century...

The Zeros seems to be fitting. Nothing special happened this decade, and a lot of things went wrong, over the past 9 years.

In the same way the turn of the 1900's didn't seem to have a name, this decade shouldn't. Nothing cool happened, and all manner of bad did.

To everybody saying that nothing has happened this past decade, tons of things have happened. Let me make a list of what I believe to be the five things that most defined this decade:

-This decade started off with the most controversial presidential election in American history (Bush vs. Gore, 2000)
-The September 11th terrorist attacks, which will very likely define this entire decade
-The invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan (aka The War on Terror)
-Hurricane Katrina devastating New Orleans
-Election of our first African-American president
-Financial meltdown of 2008

And there are plenty other of interesting things that have occured this decade. But as most of you have said, most of the highlights of this past decade were negative.

Now let me ask this question-do you think the 2010s will be any better? Why?

There seems to have been nothing but war terror attacks and natural disasters this decade, we
can hope that the next decade will be better but I highly doubt its going to improve anytime soon

kidding aside, it's called aught. Right now, we're in aught 9. Aught is a very old word for zero.
