Have a special interest usually means probably not always but at times it's a narrow interest. So what are YOUR narrow interest? Mine is Psychology. I could care less about the DSM and disorders and can think of dozens of ideas for research projects oh if only I was in College or had a degree. :-) Also I'm very complex the brain and alcoholism to why IMO people seem more cheerful during the holidays there is so much one can study as a Psychologist.

1. Reading all of the scientific literature on certain chronic diseases which I am many others have including
A. Fibromyalgia Syndrome, a chronic pain disorder
B. Restless Leg Syndrome, a distressing sensorineural disorder.
C. Neurally Mediated Hypotension, a disease of the nervous systems which causes bouts of spontaneous fainting, vomiting, and headaches

2. Collecting and repeatedly listening to certain kinds of classical music which includes almost all settings of the
A. Penetential Psalms
B. Masses for the Dead and Anglican Funeral Sentences
C. Settings of the Passion of Jesus
D. Settings of the Seven Last Words from the Cross
I can listen for days to every setting of one particular thing continuously and sometimes I listen to on thing over and over again for days.

3. Collecting stamps, coins, maps, historical documents, historical images, and melding then together in a kind of instructional wall art. I also focus on the American bicentennial and all American history depicted on foreign stamps.

When I direct my mind to these interests I can single mindedly pursue them for twelve or more hours a day without looking up or even looking to see what time it is. During these times I don't even eat or drink.

Autism spectrum disorders.

Psychology seems like a very general interest to me. Anything in particular that you're fixated on? Maybe Jung's theories? Or Freud's theories?

Personally, I'm just fascinated by why we do what we do. By that I don't mean people on the spectrum, I mean human beings in general. Why we believe what we believe. I just think about it a lot. I wonder why we're so technologically advanced and yet still so unevolved emotionally. I absorb books like Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl and The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell.

Almost all of my interests are incredibly narrow.

Literature, but mostly Soviet era (satire especially), existentialist writers, trying to get into OuLiPo, and any other book that gets my interest. [This also extends to some book collecting]

Epidemiology is fascinating me now--luckily I've been able to borrow my mom's textbooks and teach myself that.

Pharmacology has always fascinated me, but I'm only interested in a handful of drugs--anything to do with migraines, the placebo (nocebo) effect(s), most painkillers.

I think my only rather broad and ongoing interest has been Comparative Politics, but my interest in that has fizzled down (possibly because I just finished a 150 or so paper on it; not fun).

My interests are getting more specific and narrow the older I get.
