Goya, Magritte, DeChirico, Van Gough, to name a few.

The German painter Hunterwasser is modern favorite of mine.

Surprisingly- Jackson Pollock's work can be quite exhilarating when seen in person
(he's the american who dribbled paint on canvas-in books his work goes flat).

it is amazing how many times Van Gogh is mentioned....only if he knew, now, who he has become
I like kandinsky, and japanese woodcut artists....and Vincent Van Gogh
and I liked the spirit of the impressionists (meaning the rebellion from the academy and the status quo) although I find most of their works to be something pretty in the doctor's offices.
I am terrible on names. I went to art school...took 5 classes of art history and still cant remember the names of most artists.
however I do like modern japanese watercolor abstractionists

ohhh and the illustrations of Dr. Seuis books

I wouldn't really consider Blake a painter as he did only a little watercolors and such, but worked mostly with pencil and engraving. But I do love his work, both poetry and prints.

For painters I have to go with Da Vinci and Van Gogh. They do seem like obvious choices, but let me tell you... I've been to the Louvre and wow. Pictures are nice, in person those two painters are beyond words.

I think that my first favorite painter was Piet Mondrian. Then the Rousseau jungle paintings captivated me, as well.

After that was Dali, Magritte, Miro, and Edward Hopper. Hopper really seemed to connect with my inner feelings of isolation.

Then I started getting hooked on the style of people like Diego Rivera, Georgia O'Keefe, and Frieda Kahlo.

Once I started art school and became immersed in a completely fabulous art library, I became entranced with folks like Kenny Scarf, Roger Brown, Chuck Close, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella, Keith Haring, Robert Longo, David Bates and Rothko.

My list is VERY extensive. Basically, I like paintings where the colors are very saturated (often brilliant) and more segregated. Where the definition of where one color ends and and another begins is clearly defined.

I also got into many sculptors. But that's another discussion! :D

Andrew Wyeth, Brian Froud, Alan Lee, Chris Berens, Alfons Mucha, Norman Rockwell, and I'm sure there's many others I can't think of right now.

But most of you probably haven't heard of Chris Berens:

NO PHOTOSHOP AT ALL, GUYS. He uses layers of images on plastic paper using transparent drawing ink. He is....magic. That is all I have to say. Seeing an interview with him, I actually found many aspie traits in the way he behaved.

Another one for the list. Syd Mead. His concept work for stuff is amazing and done in gouache. Look up his work on Blade Runner.
