Recently I was reading a headline on a news website that read: PORN STAR SAYS SEX WITH TIGER WAS SPIRITUAL,AMAZING. I sat there for a while, thinking what kind of nut job would risk serious injury by having sex with a tiger? Then after a while it dawned on me.

I saw something similar and thought the same thing. I think they did that on purpose, to get people's attention.

Wait, but the way that's phrased, who WOULDN'T take it literally? Did it just mean near a tiger or in a cage with a tiger? Or with Tiger Woods? I'm confused...

You and FaithHopeCheese are probably right now that you put it that way. But I got a laugh out of it.

Was there a picture near it?

Well there's that rumor about Cathrine the Great's death involving a horse and all.. people like to make inappropriate implications like that for some reason.

Count me in on the "sex with Tiger" thing as well. Had me going there... :)

OK, two silly examples for you:

1) When I was an 18-year-old newlywed and very poor, my mom gave me a big box of powdered milk. She said it was very economical because it would last forever. So I took it home and made a pitcher of milk, drank some of it right away, and then three weeks later, I was surprised to find out that it had gone bad! I called my mom and told her that she was wrong and it didn't last forever as she had claimed. I didn't realize that she meant only in its dry state.

2) Hockey used to be one of my special interests, and nature is still one. So when I read about a minor-league team called the Monarchs, I didn't think of kings or crowns right away. I did not find anything out of the ordinary about my mental image of hockey players skating around with big orange-and-black butterflies on their jerseys. Once I saw their actual logo, it dawned on me that not everyone instantly associates "monarch" with "butterfly"!

Misleading headlines. I think they do it on purpose to attract readers and then they realize the article is about something else.

My support person for FEGS told me once that she told someone who seemed to have autism that, since he was drenched, the people wherever he was going would have to "Wring him out." My first thought was of a mental image with someone wringing his neck :p

When my brother was real young and first starting out in little league, our
dad told him to "keep his eye on the ball" ...well my brother took the ball and
put it on his eye..........Dad thought that was hilarious

I was told that Turkish coffee is so strong that a spoon would stand up in it. I later discovered that it was just an expression.
