You've probably all seen threads like this before, but I haven't got time to search through WP to check, so....

I have Asperger's.

My Mum doesn't understand AS at all and I have a hard time explaining AS fully without rambling to new people that I meet, or on disability forms etc.

So can anyone suggest a short paragraph to explain AS as fully as possible?

Thank you.

I'd describe it as having slightly different wiring in the brain, leading to differing ways of thinking and perceiving that put you on a different wavelength to everyone else. These differences can have little to no impact on work and non-social activities, and can sometimes be an advantage, but are always a significant barrier when interacting with other people. Social skills and the desire to socialise don't come naturally to you as they do for NT people, and behaviours relating to that have to be consciously learned in order to fit in.

One thing I think it's important to emphasize is that you're no less intelligent than anyone else, and although others can find you abnormal or difficult to understand, you feel that the workings of your mind make perfect sense.

Thank you very much for this. I will make a note of it.
