the lady (Peg Willingham) appears to be drawing a parallel between the decline of Western Civilisation and a reduction in popularity (or the amount) of Christmas or Season's Greetings cards.

Oh... :? I thought it was to do with the sycophantic photo-cards she is getting from friends and family, and was reminiscing a time when Christmas cards didn't have their ugly mugs on the front.
