What exactly does IQ measure anyway? I don't understand beyond a very shallow sense, please elucidate me.

Anyhow, I just got psychoed testing last month. 20.6 years old, WAIS-IV, score of 128. Achievement scores though are all over the map from 11-99th percentiles, averaging at perhaps 100 AQ.

I had to take one in January of last year. They wouldn't give me a number but they told me I maxed the test.

Ok. So that's great right? I'm solving the mysteries of the universe, right? WRONG. The testers told me that an abnormally high I.Q. is almost always a grave disadvantage. As they suspected, they discovered that my emotional maturity is that of a 13 year old. My social intelligence is basically nil, so now I am doing therapy to help me understand people.

The end result? I'm not doing as well in my career as guys with I.Q.s 50 points lower than mine.

it measures, primarily, "problem solving ability".

like for example the ability to conceive of overlay possibilities and the ability to work out what should be done to solve a puzzle.
it requires no language ability or cultural indoctrination. it is pure.

here is an extremely complex puzzle i worked out in a game i was playing. it is similarly difficult to a rubik's cube (which is kind of easy when you realize the centre squares on each side are fixed)
i was glad i solved it because it means i do not yet have to worry about alzheimer's disease.

like there is this viral puzzle which it seems few are able to solve but it's easy to see.

i do know know why this is a viral puzzle. it is so easy to solve.
everyone is arguing over the answer, but to me it seems so simple , there is a slim possibility i may be wrong..

it is easy to see that the multiplicand applied to the second number in each row,is determined by the number in the first column of each row.

so
1+(4x1) = 5
2+(5x2) =12
3+(6x3) = 21

so
8+(11*8) must equal 88+8 which is 96.

I was officially tested when I was 14 or 15 at public school but was never told the result. The psychiatrists I have had have described me as highly/very intelligent.
Personally I would say I'm too clever to be stupid and too stupid to be clever. I have a much higher verbal ability compared to diagrammatic reasoning/spatial ability based on online tests. With those verbally I score 150+, but spatially average around 72-74 . I tried one of those shaped based, non verbal, culture fair tests and scored 92.

I do wonder with the those who feel the need to bandy their high IQ about like a trophy, ie put it in their signature ,whether it's a case of low self esteem and defensive bragging.

It's also true that generally in such threads a degree of exaggeration takes place.

As for the validity of IQ tests as a measure of intelligence;I think they lose some validity when there are wide variations in performance, such as between verbal and spatial. They are especially poor when it comes to those who are gifted but learning disabled or twice exceptional.

That was easy to solve ,and I'm above average when it comes to Maths but far from a Maths whizz kid.

i don't know my score, i just know that i'm more smarterer and more humblerer than everybody else :)

if it could be measured passively, i'd be curious to know it. but the effort of even taking an online iq test doesn't feel like it's worth it. i grew up believing and being told that i was smarter than everybody else around me (except when it came to real-life situations happening around me, of course). if a test gives me a result that tells me that i'm smarter than everybody else, i'll think to myself, "sounds about right". but if it doesn't, i'll just think to myself, "this test is flawed", regardless if it is flawed or not

you do not have to be very intelligent to solve it i agree.

this one would take about 130 or so to solve.
there is a 12 number combination to be calculated to get into a safe, and the first 3 have been completed for your clue.

You can also solve it like this.
1+4=5
5+(2+5)= 12
12+(3+6)= 21
21+(8+11)= 40

My childhood IQ was tested at 152.

I now suspect it'd be average, and no higher. I seem to have lost just about every IQ-related brain cell I once owned.
