It's happening here too. Frankly, I can't be arsed with the whole Easter Egg thing. Just get some decent dark chocolate instead.

A few months ago (October or so) I saw boiled coloured Easter eggs in our local supermarket; I found that really weird.

I say bring it on! Easter is my favorite holiday for candy.

(and no, this is not a reference to bunnies)

Regular as clockwork the Easter eggs and hot cross buns appear on the shelves from Jan 1.

The last couple of years I have observed a new trend. At Christmas they are pushing chocolate Santas and err... Christmas eggs.

Now they are trying to get us all to send "Easter cards" as well as Christmas cards.

What is next? Thanksgiving cards and chocolate turkeys?

And I thought Valentine's stuff the day after Christmas was bad... I haven't seen any signs of Easter up here, though... YET.

The back to school thing seems to happen earlier and earlier during the summer up here too... but then again, kids are starting in early-mid August now, instead of the first or second Tuesday in September (depending on when Labor Day falls) like back when I was in school. It's still kind of a buzzkill, though, to see back-to-back ads for July 4th and Back-to-School in late June!

Yeah, sure, it keeps the economy going.

Without buying a selling we would be eating roots and berries.

The news report is late! My Mum found them in her local Tesco store on the 27th December! She couldn't stop laughing!

i couldn't agree more, jocundthelilac, and will add the following:

i really do not like this time of year; adults are encouraged to throw money at presents for people that do not need them, children are deceived. Christmas is a lie that i will not support or contribute to.

...the thing that upsets me the most is this; if you are going to be nice to someone only one day a year because it is the "season" to do so, do your actions mean anything at all? wouldn't it be better to be a good person all year? wouldn't it be better to be spontaneously generous (because you can) and kind because being kind and generous is a reward in itself?

it would seem that the primary focus of Christmas is gross consumerism, gluttony, and commercial and capital opportunity... was it not the Christian saviour, the son and embodiment of God on Earth, Jesus, that threw merchants from the temple? every year the merchants return and are welcomed with open arms by the church and the society that supposedly embraces their faith in celebrating Christmas (and Easter). is it not within the Christian doctrine to abandon greed and gluttony in favour of charity, modesty, and self regulation?

...but then what would i know about right and wrong? i am an atheist and i don't believe in anything... as said by someone else, at some other time, "morality has been hijacked by religion".

also, FYI, there is a lot of evidence that suggests that both Christmas and Easter are convenient dates adopted by the Christian faith from pagan festivals for the northern winter solstice and spring equinox/fertility respectively... it's all a sham folks.

During the years I worked in retail hell, this was when we would get the candy, etc for holidays in the stockroom:

Halloween - August
Christmas- First part of October
Valentines Day - November
Easter - First part of December
