I'm about to go to college soon, and I have never gotten an Asperger's card. I personally would like to have a card so I can present it to police officers and other people of such authority if I need to and because I am old enough to be considered an adult. I want a card that can be professionally done and not a card that you just print online.

Does anyone know where I can get one those cards? Thanks.

LOL, Willard!

If I had one it would have to explain AS (or PDD) in a way I liked, otherwise I wouldn't carry one. Like, I wouldn't carry it if it said "I don't understand social cues" but I would carry it if it said "I think different sometimes".

Don't discourage the OP. I have had cards and little info sheets for when I have a meltdown or shutdown. You don't show it to everybody just first aid or police. Police often mistake AS as drunk or on drugs. The card could stop you from being tasered or mistreated.

This site is for the entire world. The response depends on your country. Perhaps you can ask your local Autism organization?

Are you thinking of a business card type of card or a plastic card?

I guess that unless there is a government body or local state authority that can so to speak "certify" people as having AS, there is no such thing as an official AS card. Therefore you have full opportunity to make such a card yourself. I've seen an example of the wording of one such card here on Wrongplanet, so if you can find that text here, just copy it and order a stack of cards via the internet.

Edit: This is what I found here: "Post subject: Asperger's buisness card" Search for it - perhaps it may prove useful for you.

I could be wrong, but I think the MedicAlert company requires a letter from a doctor before they'll make a bracelet. Dunno about a card.

Otherwise, maybe a "carry letter" from your doctor (on his official stationary w/phone number etc, of course). As to how seriously that will be taken by authorities is a question, though.

Maybe there's a business opportunity for someone in this.

As for the medic alert, I know they did NOT require a letter from my doctor when I got one for an unrelated condition. They just asked me what I wanted on it, and they helped with the wording to get all the important info that a first responder would need to know.

Thats correct. MedicAlert does not require a doctors note for anything.
