I'm not a big Temple Grandin fan either, I can't pinpoint why I don't like her but I just don't.

There are different aspects to her voice - the tone and the intensity and the mannerisms. Some or all of these may affect people differently.

The pitch or tone of her voice is a bit unusual. What I really liked seeing is the intensity demonstrated in this show. I have only seen brief snippets of Ms Grandin speaking but watching Claire Danes portray her was eye opening to me.

She has a force and an intensity that she's unaware of because her focus is on the ideas she's trying to get across. To a lesser extent I share this with her. When I get excited about something I get louder, speak faster, sound forceful. NTs mistake this for anger when it usually is not. I just have a POINT TO MAKE. I always have a problem with volume control - never really sure if I'm too loud or too quiet and it's gotten me into trouble always.

It is unbelievably frustrating to have an important point that you're trying to get across and those you're speaking to ignore the information completely and instead focus on telling you be quiet or "calm down" (GOD I hate those two words more than anything) and their minds just stop for some reason and they refuse to hear the point and only hear all of this extra stuff - reading into it that you're angry or you're worked up or you're upset or "confrontational". At that point I DO get angry because they have stopped listening and of course if I get angry or frustrated I just get louder and talk faster....

...or she could actually be realistic, come to the simple realization that people are not going to stop eating beef (no matter how many emaciated vegans throw pictures and statistics in their faces) and attempt to make the slaughtering process as peaceful and pain-free as possible.

The way I see it, that carries far more weight than standing on a street corner handing out flyers and protesting slaughter-houses.

There's a huge difference between being a hypocrite and being intelligent enough to do something that will actually make a difference.

She is deeply practical, analytical and realistic. And the end result is empathetic and supportive to the animal's ultimate fate.

Agreed. You know, Dr. Grandin's designs were made, not for money or fame, but out of compassion for the cattle, so that they may be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve for their sacrifice in their final moments. One may not agree with the consumption of animals by human beings, but it's a fact of life. Humans have been omnivores for thousands of years, and though there will always be people that choose not to eat meat (and there's nothing wrong with that), there, too, will always be people that *do* eat meat.

That said, I don't find her annoying at all. It would be almost the same as calling myself annoying - after all, I have problems controlling the volume, speed, and tone of my voice, too (not to mention that I have a rather high-pitched voice). I first read her autobiographies six years ago - they were among the first books I read after discovering that I likely had Asperger's syndrome - and I've held her in high esteem ever since. In fact, the copy of her latest book that I've had on reserve at the library came in today... I can't wait to start reading it!

The part in bold - You may be on to something there. It would also fit with making fun of an autistic person.

After reading the first few posts, I was about to make a post which (after reading the rest of the posts) would now be redundant. To summarize, I agree with those who admire Dr. Grandin. I also see nothing wrong with discussing your own reactions. The original posts came across as being harsh and judgmental. I am glad sinsboldly clarified her original post. I wonder if the others who posted the first few posts were actually being critical of her or...?

BTW I find her voice to be a little unpleasant at times, but I love her words enough to enjoy hearing her speak. Those people who are more sensitive to certain sounds may be reacting to that characteristic of her voice.

On the subject of animals, I believe Dr. Grandin genuinely wants to help cattle from suffering. Even a vegetarian should be able to see that as long as cattle are raised for meat, it makes sense to make the process as humane as possible. She has done more to do so than probably anyone.

Temple Grandin is an inspiration to me.

I don't like it when she lumps autistics into one group.

When do you think you'll get banned for insulting and banning thousands of the members of this support site? Telling meadow to "bite" you isn't exactly the mature thing to do and breaks WP rules. As a former mod, you should know this. You seem to find enjoyment in insulting people with asperger's and autism, why is that? aren't you supposedly an aspie? If so, you yourself should know, that some aspies don't enjoy being insulted.

Wasn't it her that said "autism is a spectrum" on Alex's "autism reality" video? Sounds to me like she promotes awareness that we're all different.

I don't like hearing her talking about how there is three different types of thinking autistics have and it's all that than us having mixed thinking. She talks about how visual learners do things but it doesn't apply to me. Same as for other types of thinkers. I can't be arsed to do some research for the exact details.

By 'physical presentation' do you mean her autistic traits or you think she's ugly?
Honestly, putting down someone because she appears autistic......well you're no better than the kids that bullied you at school.
