I have a close friend on the spectrum and some of you might know her too. Well for some reason she has this thing for rocks. They aren't even her obsession yet she will stop in the middle of the street and pick up a rock she sees if she likes it! This can be dangerous and I am not sure why she does this. she takes them home with her and lines them up along her head board. Doesa any one else do this? Could this be the start of anew obsession?

I do this, and have an extensive rock collection.

Oh, the nostalgia! I used to do this as a child. I had a shelf with pretty rocks all put together in patterns (I patterned things, rather than lining them up). I still like pretty rocks, and still occasionally pick them up; but with my geology class under my belt I can now identify them. And, I am no longer silly enough to get attached to rocks, though I do still rather like looking at them, especially smooth river pebbles. I have bought a sackful of "ornamental" pebbles just for this purpose.

I do this. I rarely pick up rocks I see on the ground, but I really want the ones I do pick up. I love searching through the bins of shops that have a giant selection of rocks. I have a large crystal vase at home that I keep them in. The vase is about a quarter full. When I feel down, I dump them on the floor and play with them.

Well the fact that she will stop in the middle of the street to kneel down and pick up rocks?

This is quite denerous especaily since if you let her she will kneel ther for 3 to 5 minutes longer depending on how many rocks there are

It's dangerous to be out in the middle of the street because you can get hit by a car. Someone might not be watching the road and he hits you. You can tune out what is going on around you you might not hear the car coming and before you can even move out of the way, the driver has already hit you because he wasn't watching or by the time he saw you, he had no time to stop.

Make it a point to get the rock away from the road before oggling. It can work.

Anyway, I did have a fascination of rocks when I was younger... I'm still interested in geology, because of things like fractals, and other organic shapes.

I used to collect rocks, shells, cigar wrappers and line them up on my shelf or bed.

Just because this person is on the spectrum it doesn't necessarily mean it's the start of a new obsession. When I was a kid I liked collecting rocks of all sorts... from the rare volcanic types to the typical ones found on the beach, but this was never an obsession. I just liked the look of them and how they felt.
