Hey I just found this site today and decided to register.

I heard about aspergers a year ago, and since then i've read pretty much anything I can find about it. The description fits me like a glove, and i'm very sure that I have it. Should I talk to my doctor and get officially diagnosed?

I got diagnosed with Asperger's only recently. I think it is good to get diagnosed.
Good luck, if you decide to go for official diagnosis!

And enjoy your stay on the Wrong Planet!

Hello. It's up to you whether you get a diagnosis or not. You haven't written what country you're in but I belive it is expensive in the USA and near impossible here in the UK. It took me 6 years to get diagnosed! I would only get diagnosed officially if:

*Some of the symptoms are causing severe problems in your life
*People mistreat you because of your AS symptoms
*you have had a tough life and a diagnosis might help you understand why things happened.

Thats why I got diagnosed anyway. Welcome to WP anyway, you will be an honorary Aspie like I was when I first joined! :)

I'm from Canada, so i'm guessing it might take a while.

It sounds like a very good idea indeed.... You could indeed have some traits.
The description however fits me aswell, I was diagnosed as autistic but I seem to have more Aspergers traits.

and also I like to welcome you to wrongplanet. :D

Welcome to WP!

Everyone's raised good points - I guess it depends on your reasons for seeking diagnosis. I was diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, etc. when I went for help partly because of poor job performance. The therapy definitely helped me in my job but really had far reaching ramifications in my personal life and helped me very much. Though reasons could include personal feelings/concerns, the benefits could extend beyond that.

Good luck!

What city? If you live in Toronto, I can give you some advice on how to get a diagnosis, especially if you're still in school. If you're already in uni/college and doing very well so far, I don't see the point in getting a diagnosis unless you are very socially inept and have been unable to keep jobs in the past due to the social problems.

It hasn't really been causing me problems, so unless there's some other benefit I don't think I need an official diagnosis.
