For me, it was high school because with the scheduling, you knew exactly who you would see and at what time.

Thanks to Facebook, I can relive those days.

I lived in a dorm with single rooms and I did not understand how to make new friends in such a fashion.

In college, people were more mature.

I made friends in high school. I've been in college for almost 3 years now, and I haven't made a single one.

High school and college are, for me, equally difficult.

Now, the conventional wisdom is that college is easier - but that's true if and only if you knew what you were doing in high school. Then, if it's a bunch of new students you are going to college with, you can reinvent yourself as you please. But to reinvent yourself, you have to know what you are and what you want to be.

It additionally gets harder to make friends in college since you have more freedom to hang out with whomever you want. So this means that not only do people have higher standards, but you have to be a better judge of other people's inner emotions and monologues in order to determine whether you think they're into you.

Highschool was alot easier than college. I made and lost friends throughout and finally found my perfect small group of close friends in my last year, I still see them now. In college I have no friends, just acquainteces.
It's easier in school because I can make friends with people 2 years younger than are more at my maturity level and also there are less people to choose from so your bound to bump into someone you'll get on with, in college there are too many to choose from and are all my age or a year older and I'm not good at socialising with my own age.

For me, around about High School would of been easier for me since I was in special ed then.

Soon as I went to college, it was harder for me to make friends and yet I still hanged in the same group which I feel kinda comfortable in but then again they seem more normal compared to me and have been through more fun than I did that I missed out.

Kinda felt left out now but yea.... I prefer high school.

Definitely college and university...people were more open to my ideas and quirks. I hardly keep in touch with anyone from my high school because most of the people there were too close-minded to really appreciate what I was about.

My diagnoses - anxiety disorder, depression and traits of obsessive-compulsive disorder (all in remission).

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

High School--nearly impossible
Community College--easy; many friends I still keep in touch with
University--extremely difficult but not nearly as bad as high school

College. Everyone is slightly more mature, plus I'm with slightly more like-minded people - musicians. Means we have a common interest to discuss.

For me, it's always been a matter of it just taking a lot of time.

I finally made a close group of friends my senior year of high school, and those are still my best friends.

At the first university I went to, I made no friends. I was in the dorms and just couldn't figure out how to socialize with people and be friendly. I ended up being the guy that fixed the computers, but that was the extent of my socialization. I left after two years, thinking I could start fresh somewhere else.

At the university I am at now, the people are much friendlier and easier to get along with, but I still don't have any friends around these parts. Here it is both easier and harder, as I am in my own apartment, so I don't have to constantly watch other people socializing, which makes it a lot easier for me, but I don't interact with people much outside of class and work, but those interactions are mostly positive and I may eventually get a friend out of it.

So for me, high school was far easier, for the scheduling reasons already mentioned. In high school, I'd know who I was seeing and I'd see them five days a week. With that kind of repetition, enough familiarity grows that I can eventually make friends (it may take almost the entire school year, however). In college it seems like whenever I'm on the verge of making a friend, it's either a class that only meets once a week so I don't see that person often enough to make friends, or the semester is almost over by the time anything potentially meaningful comes and then it's too late and you never see that person again.
