Hey, all.

I'm just young enough that all of this makes me cringe, and just old enough that I can remember it. (work that out...)

did any of yous listen to indie music back then? Man, there was some good music in the early eighties, bands i'm learning about for the first time now.

How about stuff like:

Orange Juice
The Fire Engines
Television
Magazine
Wire
Gang of Four
Sonic Youth

or Minimal Wave bands like:

Young Marble Giants
Moderne

REALLY great stuff. I'd post links but i'm a newbie so I can't (as far as i am aware).

Or, what about avant-garde artists like Laurie Anderson (Big Science era) or Philip Glass (particularly Koyaanisqatsi)

Anyone out there remember/appreciate music like that?

Cheers,

Luke

Yes to Laurie Anderson. I have several of her albums. From your list I would guess you might like XTC. I have a few of their albums.

I appreciate the 80's for MTV when it was good. I liked the music better then. For example, The Clash, Talking Heads (with the ASpie David Byrne), Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Nick Lowe, Peter Gabriel, and Roxy Music.

The 80's launched the personal computer. (remember the battle between Apple II, Commodore 64, Atari, etc.?)

Prices for concerts were a lot lower than now. I was able to see Santana (twice!) the B-52's, and Todd Rundgren during the 80's. I could have seen more, but I was near the end of my concert going era. Most concerts I saw during the 70's.

I'm 41, so the 80's were my High School and College years.

Memories:
Pet Shop Boys
The Breakfast Club
Bright Yellow Shirts and accessories
madonna accessories (lucky stars, esp.)
Big, Big hair.. loads of hair spray, sprayed while head was flipped over
Miami Vice
jelly shoes
rubik's cubes
Sixteen Candles
Christmas with We Are The World
Boy George

Of course, I remember liking New Order and the Stone Roses too.. I liked SO many bands no one's ever heard of and that I don't even remember their names..
